Apologies if this page is a bit darker and more emotional than previous ones. It won't all be like this, but it's important that the reality of the plot is firmly established. Squirtle doesn't believe he's Carmine's Pokemon.
Also, I didn't add the accent marks for the word "Pokemon" yet on this page. I'll probably go back and add them in later. Maybe. I dunno.
Edit: Accidentally forgot to add in Carmine's watch before. This has been updated. Thanks to the people in the Sanctuary that pointed it out.

its okay im fine with darker tones, and i think its impotent to establish issues the characters may have to deal with early on. theirs nothing more infatuating having evreything go a certion way and all of a sudden a random, never talked about plot device shows up to cause problems for no reason. this way we know what carmine is going to have to deal with throught the adventure

Man, can't help but feel a little sympathetic toward Squirtle. He has been waiting his whole life to be chosen by a trainer and now he's afraid his own dream is at risk. Carmine hasn't exactly proven herself yet. However, once she gets the first badge, Squirtle has to listen and obey up to level 20.

In game terms, a Pokemon you caught on your own (including your starter) will ALWAYS obey you 100% of the time. It's only TRADED Pokemon you need the proper badge for.
(...Yet another thing the anime got wrong. But that's another story.)
