Description Behold the textured Quazi-Nova.

***
The Quazi-Nova is an unarmed science and research vessel, equipped with the best instrumentation avaliable that enables it to perform all sorts of deep-space scientific endeavors.

***
MODELING TIME: 10-14 Hours
TOTAL POLYGON COUNT: 32,350

PROGRAMS USED: 3DS Max 7 & Photoshop CS

***
This model was a commission work for Project Aqua, a game currently in development by Aethr ([link] ). This design is not of my making, even though I did do some minor changes to it, however, the original essence was preserved. There is only one thing missing on this model, and that is the Nova Lab which goes on the "wing" that is on the underbelly of the ship, the Lab is a state-of-the-art observatory and research facility. If you have some time, check out their website and read about the game, it looks promising.

I like the rendering of the Quazi-Nova – the capital ship certainly is an imposing mass. Good job with including more than one angle, as well. The design initially reminded me of a submarine combined with a battleship, but there are many little gems in the design that neither real life ship uses.

This ship has some interesting features, such as the bow, and I’m thinking if it’s a science vessel, that it should have sensor arrays of some sort, projecting from this section. Perhaps some windows and faded panels would be good, too. The next area that got my attention was the ‘knobs’ on the sides. I believe there are four of them, rimed with red indicator lights. While this is an interesting design element, they look very abrupt in the ship’s design. Perhaps you could find a way to transition them into the chasse of the ship that looks a little more natural? I could understand if they were experimental modules that had to be kept this way to conduct studies.

I give props to the little ‘wings’ on ship. I like their design, but perhaps you could add more segments to them, instead of just the one you have there. It would give them a sturdier look, plus maybe a more functional use.

From the bottom view, I can more easily see the strut. That is an interesting design element which I think you could further work with, adding vents or perhaps hanger doors. The ship looks big enough to easily house several wings of small ships. Perhaps you could add some smaller maneuvering thrusters, since from what I can tell, there are only the main ones on the back. What happens if the ship wants to go in reverse for some reason?

From the rear view, I like the layout of the engines. The ‘hood’ over them gives the engines a more powerful look. The front view (last view in your series) is also very nicely done. The windows and hull fortifications on the top are a nice add.

I’m sure as the model progresses, you will add more textures, but so far you got a slick design going. Keep up the good work.

Wow, another of your awesome comments Thanks for the late reply, I read this a while back but I didn't have the time to write back...

Well...

Yeah, several people have told me that it looks like a combo of those two ships.... I guess that's a cool thing, eh?

Well, since this model comes based from a sketch, I can't really argue with you that much, hehe... But yeah, I do think that the front is full of all that nice scientific stuff... Those knobs are some form of hangars, yeah I do agree it is abrupt the way they come out, but oh well... Hehe...

True on those wings, but oh well, the people in charge were pleased with them, and trust me I gave em plenty of chances to ask for changes, but yeah, I guess all in all it looks ok...

Yeah, aye aye, on those thrusters, I gotta start adding that to my models... *note to self*

I was proud of the engine section too, hehe, thanks for the props.

Thanks again, I'm happy that you took time off your busy schedulle to drop such awesome comment, I hope to keep on hearing from you (specially on the scene I uploaded for this model.)

Take care & good luck.

Compared to the scene? Well this is the "standard" color of the QN, however, on the scene there's a blueish nebula going about, so the light reflected off of that nebula makes the ship look blue...

Thank you...

I was looking at those vids of yours... They are fascinating... How do you do the muzzle flashes and the controls to make the gun recoil like that?
Actually... Lemme first ask you... What program do you use?

Now do a 1024 x 768 version of each.

That'll make the whole thing so damn big, believe me, I thought of it, but then I was like... Nahh, to big... 800X600 is ok.

No, I meant that you should submit a seperate version of each render, for wallpaper purposes.

(I use the Morning Patrol as me wallpaper, w00t!)

haha, No probs. Besides, if you look at it from a really twisted angle, it kinda looks like a rocket powered giant dildo.... But other than that its just an awesome spacey ship.

The bridge kinda reminds me of a submarine of some sort, yet in the same time it looks like/is a space craft. An interesting design at that, and well executed.

That's pretty good. ^.^ I love the lighting and engine effects. That's something I wish my program could do, heh. Though I guess I could photoshop it in easily enough. It sorta looks alive, like it's gonna zip over and eat me or something.

s2f In reply to Jarndahusky [2005-09-09 14:08:28 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thank you, yeah if your program can't really do that then it would be fairly simple to just PS it.

Any specific requests? I can put her alongside a Star Wars or Star Trek ship. I just need some general dimensions so I know how to set up the perspective.

s2f In reply to RBL-M1A2Tanker [2005-09-14 13:10:45 +0000 UTC]

I don't have any particular requests, I'd rather you do whatever you want and surprise me... General dimensions??? Hmm... It's not that big... If it helps, check out "KNOWLEDGE" and judge by the raptors, who are small 1 person fighters.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RBL-M1A2Tanker In reply to s2f [2005-09-14 21:46:15 +0000 UTC]

It helps a bit, but it's kinda hard to tell really well since the fighters are closer to the viewer, therefore making them look larger than they really are in comparision to the capital ship.

I'm sure I can think of something though.

s2f In reply to RBL-M1A2Tanker [2005-09-14 23:39:16 +0000 UTC]

Nah, check it out, there is one fighter that is, like, right on top of the forward section of the ship. You can see it's shadow being cast into the ship, use that as a guide. I believe it is good enough... I'd say these fighters would be like the size of a small bus, or a large SUV.. ?

Hmm....I'd say it's somewhere between the size of a corvette and a frigate....got it.
