Her thoughts ran so deep she almost forgot Bonnie was even beside her until a very small, fragile voice spoke up. She blinked, coming to, and turned her head to look at the other molly. The sight was pitiful: Bonnie was hunched over, her expression absolutely miserable, and she refused to meet the crone’s eyes. Lucreta wondered what it was like to worry so much on what someone else thought of you. Especially a stranger like herself. She looked down at Bonnie curiously, almost enraptured by this tiny, delicate creature. So moved by the thoughts of those around her, so easily brought low. She was such a wonder.
“He told me you’re a survivor,” she reiterated, surprisingly not annoyed to be repeating herself. “That you’re a fighter. He told me you’re strong and bright. That you can handle yourself. Nothing you’ve said so far has done anything to prove otherwise. But I suppose that was only half the question, hm?” So what exactly did she think of Bonnie?
Lucreta paused, and took a moment to think of what she wanted to say. It was a good thing she had already proven herself an honest cat, so Bonnie would have no reason to doubt her words. “I think you’re young, and you love your family greatly. Even an old bastard like Douglas has your love. Does that blind you to the finer details of things, such as the feud between Amos and his father? Yes.” She bared her teeth in an ugly, gap-toothed smile. “But I’ve heard that love is blind. And I also know that grudges are not passed on by blood. You’re a smart girl, Bonnie. I like you. I think you’ll survive yet.”
