Description

Hey everyone, guess what? Something's back at the Bronx Zoo for the holidays! That's right, the Holiday Lights have returned this year and that means so did the Lantern Safari and I was fortunate to go there (and I was glad that I did) once more! What's special is that there is a new cast of creature lanterns this year (just like last year). However, this new cast is in just the Oceans and North America. But this year, this new part of the trail is going local. In other words, we'll be exploring the new cast of characters that are native to the local wild around New York City, so we wont have to worry about traveling too far (though it would've been fun if we did). So, as we start our Lantern Safari trail off in the oceans, we'll be checking out some of aquatic life around New York. Yet, all of this new cast are all fish. Here is the first new lantern animal, which is an Atlantic sturgeon. Living up to its name, this sturgeon species is widely distributed along the Atlantic coast of the United States, though it can also be found in Europe. However, the Atlantic sturgeon is known to migrate up the river in order to spawn.
