Kaien Cross and his children.
Race matters not.
I think many people just see VK as a random romance story with vampires as a bonus, but it's deeper than it seems, if you start thinking of the whole plot about the coexistence between vampires and humans, and the difficulties the two races have to get along.
The first arc covered often the fact the vampires feel tempted to feed on the humans, and the second arc is starting to go more in detail over the fact many humans want to take advantage of the vampires and do horrible things for their powerful blood etc... :S
Sure, it's a fictional world and a fictional race, but difficulties to coexist, issues about equality, discrimination, racial hatred etc.... those are all subjects that find a mirror in the real world, and that are very important. ^^/
I find that aspect of VK fascinating.
Even though most of the characters struggling for racial equality etc. in it are doing it not out of some great philosophical ideal but more because of their loved ones. XD (Kaien did it for Juri, and I suspect Kaname cares for the cause so much because of Yuuki, even though I'm sure he'd also try his best otherwise too, because of his own ideals and his parents' ones.)
But then, is it not also very realistic? In the real world, when we stand against oppression, racism etc., we don't always do it exclusively for the sake of an ideal, we do it because we want to create a better world for the ones we love.
Errr, somehow all this talk makes the pic look deeper than it actually is. 8D;;
I'd originally just meant to draw them as a happy family because it was a cute mental image I had, (Zero is still fitting in, hence the scowl, although the chairman insisted in pulling him in closer for the group photo despite him not wanting XD XD *LOL*), without necessarily thinking of the greater image, but as I drew it I started to think of the fact they're from such different backgrounds and races, and yet....... no matter what, they ARE a family. X3
Eh, with some luck the message of peace would also help getting the fandom to quit bashing and ship-warring so bad. ;-;
I'm a huge fan of the main trio, and ideally would love to see them end up together (they're my OT3 X3), so it is particularly painful when I see people bashing either side. T_T
At least Zero is lucky, very few people bash him, but Kaname gets so much hatred online in the western fandom, and in such an unfair manner.
A lot of people spread misinformation about him and act as if he's some kind of evil being, and lots of the younger fans who didn't read all of the manga or who didn't read in depth and missed stuff, end up believing and spread more hate. :-/
In truth, both Zero and Kaname are lovely, and we should just love whatever character we may want and enjoy the series without bashing anyone, because bashing and flaming accomplishes nothing other than hurting the feelings of the fans of the character being constantly trashed. ^^/

i find this very cute, because of the how deal with how kaien is yuuki's legal gaurdin and such. and kaname is her older "brother". and how ever since zero started living with kaien and yuuki, he was always treated as on of the family. even if zero didnt want to be part of the family. its, kinda like, showing that it doesnt matter where they came from, in the end they are family.

That is soooo very awesome and well-drawn! They look so cosy and natural that you think they are a real family (and, in a peculiar sense, they are). And I agree with the stuff you said, about the racism. I'm very sad about Kaname being so hard on Yuki but he loves and cares for her deeply enough to do so. And as much as I want Zero and Yuki to end up together, it's whatever the mangaka decided, right? And I support both boys! But personally I'm a Chairman nut, lol (I'm more like him, which is creepy and funny all at once)

Thank you! I personally hope the three could end up together (well, both the boys with Yuuki, as I don't think it will end in yaoi, unfortunately XD), because it's pretty much the only way there could be a happy end for the series.

The guy is a total pushover, she could walk all over him any time she would feel like it. XD
The only time he ever imposes something is when he asks for the little things he wants like the long hair and the delicate shoes, but it was one more case of him asking for her to indulge him... if Yuuki said no, it's not like he'd have forced her or anything. XD
Yuuki is very passive, but Kaname is totally not hard on her.

WOW...the artist comment is really well thought out. I agree with you, but I also think that the story is really similar to Shakespeare's Hamlet...but in a very different way. I love all the characters (with a few exceptions, of course, eg: Rido) but I think what I hate most about the story is how everything has to "go wrong" just when Zero has started to open up and you can see his true personality separate from his dislike of vampires, etc.

I love the long explanation on commentary, I have a vampire story in a fanstory of Naruto, when familie ties are broken to protect the bloodline, when family members are forced to marry. And by the way nice drawing.

I love how everyone manages to fit in! Kaien loves them all so dearly...
I truly do like the main characters of VK. Yuuki's actually a strong heroine, and her name befits her so well, seeing as how she would sacrifice herself for the sake of her childhood friends, virtually at the cost of her own life.
Zero is really as kind as Yuuki is, no matter how much he hates vampires and himself. His love for Yuuki is well justified.
I really must say that Kaname is my favorite. Everything he does has been with Yuuki in mind, and he's gone through so much to protect her.
Kaien is the most loving father figure of any series I've ever read. I can't blame him for adoring his "children".

XD While I'm sure he'd have done it too if she was his sister, it's not likely they're related because:
1) The very only thing the two have in common is being blond, which is far from being uncommon. Takuma and Aidou are too, and they're not related. So is Yori, who isn't related to them either. Not to mention a lot of people in Day Class. ;D
2) If Kaien really was related to her, he'd have been declared Zero's legal guardian at the death of the parents. It was not so, Zero had no family left and was entrusted to Yagari instead.
Yagari is the one who decided to hand him over to Cross, but after much hesitation due to not being sure it was such a smart move due to Kaien's ideals and all. XD
3) Why would the chairman hide it from Zero, if he really was Zero's only family left? Especially now that Ichiru is gone... The chairman isn't a cruel person, I don't think he's have hid that fact from Zero, especially since Zero had really lost everything and was a paria of all societies practically shunned by everybody due to being bitten, the poor thing. He had nothing left and no one. If Kaien and him were related, I'm sure Kaien would have told him. ^^/

As for the hunter curse, in the anime they made it all "MYSTERYYY" to make more suspens and all, but in the manga I didn't get the feeling it was a secret. It just looked like Zero knew from the start that it was because they were twins that it all happened and he took Ichiru's strength.
I don't know how it was portrayed in translations though, since it was already originally vague and all in the japanese version.
If you mean whether Zero knew about the stuff with the initial hunters eating an ancestor and getting the curse from that though, we don't know. Ichiru knew from Shizuka telling him, but we don't know if Zero knew that detail too or just the way the curse works and the fact he took Ichiru's power.
It's just in the anime that Kaien was hiding the stuff about the curse. It... kind of made no sense since both of the twins seemed to know well about it in the manga, hahaha~ XD
The initial hunters ate "one of the ancestors" says the manga, "to gain the power needed to be able to hunt vampires". So this is how hunters gained their abilities, such as healing a bit faster than normal people (Zero already had that normally as a hunter before Shizuka bit him), of being able to do the hunter charms perhaps, and all those things above normal people etc.
That's why you don't become a hunter just being a normal human. You have to be born from a hunter family, or you won't have those abilities, passed down from generation to generation from the first group. (We don't know how large it was.)
It's not a Kiryuu thing, it's the hunter abilities as a whole, that come from the fact those first hunters all partook in the pureblood's flesh, and gained those powers. (But were also as a result cursed by the vampire race. (Though "curses" are how people explain things afterwards, we don't know if it was really a "curse" from the vampires as revenge for the death of the ancestor or if it was just a result of eating vampire flesh.))
There are many interesting little details to be found in the manga.
I started scanlating VK too because loads of details were missing in the older scanlations.

All Hunters would have hunter abilities, of course, although some lineages are stronger than others. The fanbook said the Cross family and the Kiryuu family were particularly strong and renowned Hunter clans.
As for the fanbook, I intend to post parts of it when I have time, yeah. Anyway I'm thinking sooner or later it will be released in English, since VK is a popular series...
The reasons for Kaien trying to kill Juri are pretty much explained in chapter 45. He was fed up of the endless battle between their races and his obligation to kill so much due to being born a hunter, and in a moment of despair he thought that if he wiped out the Kurans, the highest pureblood family, maybe he'd be one day free of it all. (No more purebloods = no more vampires being made and all that. He was a lot like Zero when he was in his desperate times.)
But then, Juri's ideas of peace and coexistence gave him a better reason to live than that...
As for the ancestors, we know they were purebloods, so there was nothing to confirm anyway. XD *lol* It's always been that, already explained in volume 6 long time ago and all. 
The first one was Kaname's original form, but there must have been others since Ichiru said "the first hunters ate ONE of the ancestors" instead of saying "ate THE ancestor". Which makes that we don't know if they ate the first one, or another of them. Hino-sensei leaves clues, but doesn't solves the mystery yet.
I have two theories. One is that part of Kaname's original body was eaten, and another, more probable, is that it was Yuuki's original body that was eaten. The first theory works with the fact that Bloody Rose recognizes Kaname's blood (thought that could have been just from shooting him in chapter 30 XD; ), while the second theory would work both with what Ichiru said and with the fact Kaname mentioned the ancestor going into slumber after his despair back then and all... if he'd been eaten, it wouldn't have been the same way, I think. It sounds more like he was despairing and chose to sleep through the ages.
Of course, like I said, it's just a theory. We don't know yet enough to know for sure what's more or less likely.
I also have a theory about Zero being the reincarnation of the original Kiryuu hunter who started their clan, but then it's getting waaay far fetched, hahaha. XD; No manga clues to base that theory on, that theory is just motivated by me wanting the three of them together and close to each other, which isn't as much the case if Kaname and Yuuki are from thousands of years ago like in the other theory, and Zero isn't. XD XD So it's not based on any manga clues yet. But I'd like if it turned out it's true or something. XD *lol*
VK is full of mysteries and there's still many chapters ahead, so much might happen.

i agree with you lol oh about the trio recarnation or they reseble . i mean could be that they reseble the part anstors too , and i have an other theroy due hino been puting the eat me as a love thing could it be that it was the eating a act of love too? i mean thats why i wanted too check how many hunters there are like zero and kaien , and its strange due i pureblood is powerful and they where just human's back then with no powers ,so how the heck did they get there hands on a pureblood? and i agree that he slept because something went wrong too him.
