...I suppose the Pikmin do look up to me as a parental figure. They certainly are an intriguing, loyal and adorable bunch.( )
The Pikmin's mom is here too, see that leg?
Obviously Olimar isn't related to the Onion! 
He's a dad at home, and a dad to the Pikmin, hehe~
(And before anyone goes all "slavery," you have not heard Olimar sing reveal his thoughts through Namida ga Afureta.......)
COMMENTARY/COMPLAINTS:
I decided on including only the original three Pikmin types, because they are the very first ones Olimar encountered after all.
I wanted to emphasize their special bond. 
The other Pikmin types are here too, sort of... 
That grass....
is distracting and not very complimentary. Looks like I rushed it...Sunlight layer didn't work right. The picture looks best as a thumbnail lol! So-so coloring, though I love how Red's nuzzling against their captain.

I like how you did the grass, the blades and stuff...(hates grass, HATES it to the point of walking on it and plucking it and....eating it) >:U I just can't draw/colour grass...and I don't like to either, so I'm always at an aww with others grass. X'D

Grass is gay, 
I usually find it easier to just stick to sunsets or night time if I ever do bg's with that kinda colour in em... cause least you can work with the blending of different colours and thus also filling in some thing bald and empty ;>
I'm seriously tempted to draw some pikmin now...

I never played a pikmin game before, but from what I've seen from it; I can tell that the pikmins do look towards Olimar as a parental figure

The game really can shape you up to be a good leader (which carried over to Nintendo Land, where you would also have to watch out for your fellow players), but at the same time.....it can also make you frustrated and feeling devastated and terrible when you mess up and cause your Pikmin to perish....

haha, really? sounds very interesting; might of have to try it myself one day; should I start with the first one or the second pikmin? xD
btw, I've been meaning to tell you this!! Olimar might not be the only married brawler; in the good ending of Star Fox Command, Fox marries Krystal and have a son named Marcus, but due to low reception and reviews, the ending is non canon (it is debatable, we could say)

Yeah, it's getting sketchy because even with Peach, she doesn't recognize being married to Bowser either (Beginning of SPM), and then like you said, Fox is married in one of the many endings. XD;;
Funny thing is the fact still stands; Olimar is solidly married.

I was going to say post-Pikmin 2, but this could also take place in the original game. Despite the desperate dire in escaping a foreign planet, who's to say you can't stop for a few minutes and relax and unwind? XD::

With the Pikmin, their "mother" is technically the Onion (you can see a leg of it in the picture), which, after feeding it, ejects the saplings into the ground that sprout into Pikmin. C:
