            ...I seriously need to be done with hedgehogs. But I need hedgehog relatives for the hedgehog characters I already have, so.... xD

        Celes' father and a widowed king, predecessor to Edgar. He appears to be somewhat of an antagonist to Edgar and Celes' story, but he's really mostly a victim to his own faults. He's large and brooding, and is generally cold and distant. He doesn't smile much, and not only do his eyes look threateningly fierce, but also look worn and tired with wrinkles/bags/dark circles around/under his eyes. He's got a bad, occasionally even violent temper. Sometimes even he realizes how bad it is an ends up regretting things he's done.

              When his wife was alive, he still had a bad temper, but her being around helped keep him calmer and more open to realizing he needed adjustments to his attitude. At times, though, she unfortunately became the one that his temper unleashed on, times he deeply regretted doing. She was a calm and gentle queen, and truth be told, he doubted his ability as a leader and wallowed in sorrow and regret over it, believing that she was a better leader than he was to the city. In reality, however, he can actually be a decent ruler when he keeps his attitude at bay and his mind clear from bad temperament. This is the same for his overall character, as he can have a softer side that's usually covered by his angry mannerism.

              When his wife passed away, he snapped and his temper got worse. He then became extremely possessive over Celes and seemed cold toward her. But he does it to try and to do what he thinks is best to protect her because, deep down, he fears loosing her like he did his wife. He actually does care about his family and his people. Eventually, after feeling he was inadequate as king, he decides it's best for him to step down and find a new king to take the throne with Celes. The last person he expected to take his place, though, was a poor, lowly outsider merchant named Edgar, whom he had been tricked by Celes' suitors into believing was a criminal, unaware that the suitors themselves were the vile ones hiding behind their riches. Eventually, though, after Edgar becomes king, in later years, Torch simmers down and becomes more kind and gentle.

            I've had his design drawn out since 2017, but I couldn't find a color scheme I liked for him and kept scrapping the colors. I finally came up with this recently, and colored this sketch from last summer. To give him a tough and brooding appearance, I decided I wanted him to have a different body type from most Sonic characters and make him much larger than most hedgehogs. I took some design inspiration for certain traits from Sonic's werehog form and Tikal's father, Pachacamac the Echidna, for the fluffy, scruffy, more bulky build. The werehog's fluff, and a fuzzy muzzle like Pachacamac. His colors are darker, duller, and more void of vibrancy to reflect his scornful attitude. The dullness of color also is used to reflect the dark, dull look smoke and soot makes things appear. The dark, pale colors are also sort of like the werehog's. I gave him flaming orange eyes to show fierceness and represent the name "Torch". I decided to name him Torch, not because he has any pyrokinectic ability, but because of his character. To "torch" something is to burn it, singe, char -- his temper torches and burns things because its hurtful, so to speak. But when taken into different perspective, the word also stands for a torch, which gives light, and can burn bright. It's a name that represents that he's not necessarily the bad guy.
