I think part of Sams development is from the fact that he’s a lot like Michael Bay himself. Bay is well known for being an insecure abuser on set and I think he accidentally made Sam his self insert

Like I said in you comparison with Chris, Sari from TFA is much better than both Chris and Sam. Not even Energon Ironhide is this annoying. TFE Ironhide has Matt Hill, Sam has none. And I was too busy hearing Ed to be annoyed by Energon Ironhide.

Eddie was a great character when I was a kid, and an AMAZING one now that I'm an adult and can look at things more deeply.
The main thing that redeems Eddie as a character in my eyes is a single brilliant scene, early on, which doesn't even have a word of dialogue: The scene when he is developing the blackmail pictures he took of Jessica, and we see the rest of his office. From the other, older pictures on the roll (Remember when that used to be the case when it came to photography?) and the various newspaper articles and old photos scattered around the office, we can see that Eddie wasn't always the bigoted, drunken sack of misery we'd observed in the movie up to that point; Back when his brother Teddy was alive, he was a happy, good- humored guy (One picture shows that he and Teddy used to be CLOWNS, people who made a living off of spreading laughter and happiness) who loved helping toons, but then Teddy's death at the hands of a toon gave him too heavy of a look at the ugly side of life and hardened his heart. Bob Hoskins's performance in that particular scene (Again, without so much as a single word of dialogue) makes it even more heartbreaking. Though, then, that in turn makes it all the more glorious in the end of the movie when Eddie regains his sense of humor and his optimistic outlook on life.
In short, Eddie's a wonderful character definitely worthy of a "Positive" on one of these comparison lists.
