Sasori's chest rose and fell with more dramatically. Sakura didn't have to look at the anger in his eyes to know he was suffering from an immensely injured pride. Only then did she regret making such a silly accusation; but Sakura wasn't about to apologize to the man she wished she had stabbed in the back. You took his reason for living. He's just a shell, Inner Sakura reminded her. If you lost everything, what would you do?

Tentatively, Sakura closed the gap and hugged him. Sasori was smart; he'd know she was trying to apologize without damaging her pride by saying it. But he wouldn't take it.

Sasori shoved her off of him. "Go," he said in hoarse whisper.

"What?" Sakura asked, her short temper raging to kick in.

"I said go. You want to go and frolic in the fields, then fine. We don't need you."

"What about Deidara? And what are you going to do with Saori?"

"Deidara can heal on his own. I'll make Saori a subordinate of mine."

It kicked in. "You're going to affiliate her with the Akatsuki?! You want to put a death sentence on her?!"

Sasori returned the favor. "You think she doesn't already have one?"

"From Iwa! That's one country! She'll always be safe in Fire Country as long as I'm around."

"You're blind, little girl! Just about every country, even Ame and Kusa, have affiliated themselves with the Akatsuki. That death warrant isn't just in Iwa. It's in every single country. So is yours. Fire Country is of little significance. It'll be gone in a few months, mark my words." Sakura tore her hardened expression and bolted past him. She was going to prove him wrong. She was going to prove him wrong.
