I got a question during AFA on how I made my flame eye so I decided to share it here. (Though that girl probaby won't see it, lol.)

1. Sketch + Prototype
I tried basing the design on ~sakana and ~xrysx 's BRS flame eye , which is the epitome of awesome , and the figurine . But, me being stupid, I fail at 3D stuff like that. I tried making a wire frame, sticking paper on, cutting off the extra bits and taping it together to make a guide of sorts so I that I knew the basic shapes. Or whatever.
Another thing I tried out was to make the eye completely visible and uncovered. Didn't work out too well though...

2. Prototype
The prototype made of wire, rough paper and lots of tape.
You can also take a close look at the paper I used. It was labelled as tracing paper at Art Friend but it was too opaque for that. *shrugs* But it's blue, semi-tranluscent and stiff, perfect for the flame eye. (and expensive too, S$0.65 per A4 sheet...)

3. Final design
I traced over the separate sections of the prototype with the blue tracing paper and tried to stick it back together. But it failed, bleh.
So, taking my failed flame eye, I took the extra bits of "flame" I cut out earlier and stuck it on with UHU glue. Tried to aim for a 3D effect.

Bottom view? Well, it's the bit that covers the eye. I cut out a hole there so that I would still be able to blink comfortably.
You can also see how I attached it to my head: elastic. It's basically like an eye patch. Just more glamorous, yes?
The idea was to hide the thin elastic band under the hair. The inner (closer to the centre of the face) bit would go under the fringe while the outer (closer to the edge of the face) bit would under the side bangs and go below the ear. The rest of the elastic behind the head would be hidden under the hair.
I just poked holes (with a bobby pin, lol), strung my elastic through and tied a knot. I was afraid the paper would tear from the stress of the elastic so I put some take around that for some reinforcement.

And there you go, a beautiful flame eye~
