Due to the lack of relationship between me and most of my relatives, I strongly disagree with that thing people say about not being able to pick one's family. Family is anyone is loves you for who you are, they're kind to you, they sincerely care about you, they don't try to change who you are and make you someone you're not--the list goes one, but my point is, relatives are not family, at least not for me. My friends are my siblings, my teachers are my parents/aunts/uncles/etc. So, what is a father? To me, it's a male figure in your life who feels compassion towards you and whom of which you have a strong sense of respect for. There's also a need of a reasonable age gap between you and this male figure; otherwise, they're more of a brother than a father.

Thank you for taking the time to write that response.
I think it's quite true that you actually do have the ability to pick one's family because each person in this world is their own.
I would elaborate on this, but I feel a mountain of words will follow so I'll place it on a pad of paper.
Anyway, I'm glad you feel that way, and I like that perspective
