Description This maps continues the previous historical map of Andalusia: Spania - Bizantine Empire 551 - 630 CE  The next is Al Andalus under Umayyad Caliphate 718 - 756 CE

After the byzantine domination, the Baetica was unified again under the title of Duchy. Under this duchy, domination over the territory was expanded to ensure the loyalty of the nobility. Even so, they were always reticent to the visigothic kings.

In 711 a battle took place at the Guadalete River near Gades against the governor of Islamic Africa from the Umayyad Caliphate. Here, the Visigothic king Roderic was betrayed by his troops, who sided with his enemies, and the king was killed in battle. The Muslims then took all the Baetica without resistance, and went on to capture Toledo, where they executed several Visigothic nobles. Here is when the Umayyad conquest of Hispania started.
