Description Watercolors on cold press 9x12", ran out of the 90 lb paper and switched over to 140 lb cold press, the watermarking isn't as great but some of the colors show up a lot stronger

Here's the youtube video showing how I make these types of paintings:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a6C-U…

wow Sarah.... you are really productive...
There must be a whole zoo in your atelier soon
this is a ladylion isn't it?.... or a puma?
However... it's beautiful...so clean and fresh those watercolourpigments....
What kind of masking fluid are you using in the beginning when outlining the silouette shape?
cheers
Dominik

Hey Dominik! I hope your art is coming along well

Haha pretty much, I've got artwork piling up all over the place, at least these are on paper so considerably less bulky than canvas
Thank you so much for your kind words! I don't use masking fluid for these pieces, here's a link to a video showing how I make these types of paintings:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a6C-U…
Let me know if there's anything I can help with

Have a great day!

hello Sarah,
oh wow... I think I never got so many notifications from one artist at a time ))
Thank's a lot!
It's a great pleasure to have you as a watcher as you are inspiring me very much too!
Allright... I see you are not using masking fluid...
I actually had a look at this video earlier to try to understand how you do these beautiful animal aquarelles but I didn't realize that you are "ghostpainting" with water.
What I wonder is if there is a minimal finelined pencil sketch underneath to guide the waterbrush?
Or maybe you are just so genius to paint with water directly

Well when looking at your technique i could imagine that it could be inspiring for you to look at Hazel Soans work....
To get an impression you can look at this videoΒ youtu.be/p9GDlq0fdjE

Well... keep going with your amazing artwork and please do always feel free to give critics and comments on my work too.
Thank you very much
Hav a nice evening
cheers from Switzerland

Hello Dominik! I hope you are well today
I meant to watch you earlier but I easily get sidetracked- your work is fabulous!Β

Ah yes, I use brush drawing techniques alone, no pencil involved at any point It really helps me keep everything loose and not get caught up in trying to make every little detail perfectΒ

Hazel's work is absolutely amazing, I hope someday I can paint with the same level of freshness and clarity as her - her work is so inspiring

Have a wonderful day!

Sarah

hi Sarah,
oh wow... is that really true?... you are painting free of any pencil presketches?
This is awesome... great respect!!!
Well... tomorrow I'll be at the sketchclub session in Zurich... drawing from live (Cosplay models).
So I just had a look at your portraits... they are amazing too...
I have to look in more detail later

have a nice evening
cheers
Dominik

Oh my! How can you create so much artwork in such a short amount of time? Β

Hahaha, well, some of these were done a while ago but I've only just uploaded them, but otherwise I get up extra early to have a few more hours every day to work on artwork Β

Well that explains it! I take at most a week or two for my artwork. Is your painting your full time job? If you don't mind me asking of course Β

SALTWatercolors In reply to OnTheArtistRack [2018-02-06 15:22:46 +0000 UTC]

At least you're painting though! I know a number of people that want to paint but give up if their painting takes more than a day
I wish I could say this was my full-time job! Oh to dream...haha, I'm a vet student and have had a lot of time the past few weeks to work on paintings (these only take me about an hour to an hour and a half to do, one of the upsides of watercolor) whereas until about a month ago I could squeeze in maybe 8 hours/week to paint if I woke up at 4:00 in the morning every day.

How about you? I love learning about other artists, we're such a diverse group!

Oh no! I don't like hearing artists do that. Sometimes a painting needs more loving care than for a few hours. The bigger painting I've been working on has taken me 2 years to paint because of my studies. Oh sometimes dreams do come true I paint as a hobby and lately a bit as a part time job if someone is interested in my art. (Lately my neighbor has been the most interested but I think she's only nice because she saw me grow up) I've been struggling trying to find somewhere to show my canvas art and sell it. Well it takes time of course. I'd like to show my parents that I can earn a bit of money through my art I like to listen to other artists and support them. You have such beautiful art that many people appreciate including myself! Β

I agree completely! Oh wow, do you have that piece posted on dA? I bet it's been super cool to see how your technique and approach has changed with the painting over such a time period

That's what I've been doing too! I was so tired of not making any money in school. It took a while but it's actually starting to bring in decent earnings (prints are where it's at if you can make them in-house and ship them yourself) and it is such an awesome feeling. I know art isn't supposed to be about money but it really helps when trying to buy more supplies! I have complete faith in you, I'm not sure where you're located but around here there are a good number of little coffee shops that will showcase people's art (and then absorb a percentage of whatever pieces sell for) but it's way less daunting that showing at galleries and your art might get seen by even more people than it would at a gallery if it's a busy shop

I'm more than happy to help if you go down the Etsy/online selling route, I've made (and learned from) a load of mistakes haha, I'd be overjoyed to help other people avoid the same issues I ran into Β

Thank you for the kind words, btw! Your work is fabulous (I absolutely love that one with the awesome clouds that you sold), have a great day!

I think I'll post it once I'm actually done! More supplies is always a very good thing It's nice to hear that you've been successful! I never thought of selling art that way. I'll have to look into some coffee shops and see if they allow it! As for online selling, I'm mostly using DA for the prints or downloadable options. I'm still not ready for Etsy but maybe someday. Thank you for your kind words as well! My mother has been on a rampage since she thinks my sneezing comes from the acrylic paints I use. I haven't been painting just to prove that isn't it. (I've still been sneezing btw) I hope you continue your art! It's so brilliant and rich in color that I love.Β Β
