Description Industrial/Steampunk Necklace

brass, bronze wire, leather, bronze findings and a nickel

The brass actually came off of the gun turret of an old battleship. The patina of the metal came about naturally, from years of use out on the ocean.

I think the story behind the pieces you used is just as interesting as the necklace itself

This thing is phenomenal! I love the Steampunk roots of it as well as the real life history (gun turret). I would wear this thing every single day of my life if I had one.

Beautiful! I love it! I love the rough texture and the steampunkish/industrial feel it has.

Excellent work once again, I like this piece a lot. The one thing I'd do is close the rings completely The way you used the nickel is very original as well, recently I've found out (after finding a quarter that definitely looked like silver) that there were actually silver quarters up to 1964, they are only 90% silver but still look a lot better than the cupro-nickel coins.

Thank you! Maybe sometime I'll fiddle with it to get the gaps in the rings to close up a bit more.

That's interesting. I think I have a silver quarter floating around in my coin collection somewhere, but I never paid attention to the date. I wonder if I can find some more of them and use them in something...

Not that the Federal Government is on the look out for artists to put in jail, but it is technically a federal offense of some sort to deface coin and print money. There is your random (but not unrelated) fact of the day.

It is only illegal to fraudulently deface or alter currency. That means, if you're trying to pass a one dollar bill off as a ten, it's illegal. However, melting coins down, altering them without the intent to pass them off as something else, ect. is perfectly legal.
