So as I mentioned on my last picture Green Hill Zone [link]

my brother has challenged me to draw every level in the Sonic the hedgehog game on the SEGA genesis.
This of course is Level 2, Marble zone from the original Sonic the hedgehog game.
Personally I think that this picture came out better then level 1 because there is just more too it. I also has more of a vibrant color choice for this level.
Marble zone also contains one of my favourite badniks, the caterkiller. not only is he a good looking robot but its placed in these horrible places....
For example in one part where you cross the lava you can jump up and onto some floating blocks (where the lava falls down every few seconds). If you go to the right there is a place with some TV’s, rinds and shield. Great! however the caterkiller is hiding there Behind the TV’s... grr!! That one got me so many times. Then there’s the one that explodes and the pieces bounce all over... truly evil! Ah How I love that guy... xD
Anyways enjoy
Level 3 coming soon

This looks really great! Looks like you used a lot effort. There need to be more traditional artists here

Thanks, I should be doing a couple speed drawings of the next levels soon too, and I agree, the computer makes it so easy to draw certain things....

I'll make sure to see them!
OMG someone who agrees with me. . . the whole world, including the artistic world, is turning to the digital realm. . . It's sad.

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-07-25 23:50:03 +0000 UTC]

cool!
Yeah, I myself am a digital artist simply because of the reduced cost of materials and needed space. also its a lot of fun, to have every effect and so on and so on, but... I do agree that it is sad. People who have no skills at all can look like a pro on the computer and push away the people that have real skills. This is one reason why I try to use no special effects on the computer, I think you should learn to do them yourself, feels... idk more real if you ask me. I hate it when people tell me to use some effect 'cause "its faster" but thats not the point of art, or making art. I won't say its cheating but imo it kinda is. I'm really wishing that I had more time to do more traditional artwork and that's why I'm trying to post more and more of it.

I agree with you completely, and I couldn't have said it better myself. I mean, to put it in the simplest form possible, I'll just say this: it's definitely harder to shade in a hole page with a pencil than to just use the fill tool. lol don't get me started with other effects. And it does feel more real to pick the pencil up and do it yourself than it does with a mouse. (I don't have a tablet)
But if you're lacking in time, I wouldn't blame you for using digital programs for art. Right now I'm on summer vacation (that might not mean much for you if you work or are in college, but I'm merely an 8th Grader), so I have some time on my hands right now lol. Your whole gallery looks fantastic anyway I still have this feeling that all art is art!

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-07-28 00:25:56 +0000 UTC]

O yes its much harder, even drawing a straight lines with a ruler is harder. Pencil of course does feel more real and I myself do have a tablet, it feels plenty real to me because I do most of the shading myself etc. One of the few effects I would use on the computer would be the blur of smudge, to me thats like smearing pencil or whatever your using with your fingers. The great thing about digital art as I said is the ability to have and use all the colors in the world and get the effects of pencil and paint without having to spend a ton of money on them, but nothing in the world can replace the real deal.

I do love the ability to get all the vibrant colors and different effects that you can use while making art digitally, and it usually ends up looking better anyway! It's just good to see artists that still draw traditionally. I sometimes feel alone
I dislike the limits that my colored pencils have, and the way the scanner makes them look worse

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-07-28 01:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, well I dont think that it always looks better its just something different.
Ugh I totally hear you there! Sometimes I scan things and they look god awful D:
Arg... you really have to edit scans with some program and fix them almost every time >:/
And yes, every material has its limits but pencil crayons are so versatile, they are my favorite thing to use and they are awesome! Have you tried using blending pencils?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

segasonic360 In reply to sammacha [2012-07-28 05:22:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm totally sick of seeing my art killed by my scanner... especially when the editing takes longer than drawing it
I haven't gotten to try using blending pencils, but I have seen their use in art and it looks great! I've been thinking of getting them the next time I go to an arts and crafts store.
Currently I'm trying to paint my art, because all I'm used to using is colored pencils

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-07-29 21:16:43 +0000 UTC]

Well it shouldn't take that long to make the picture look good on the computer after scanning it, maybe you need to change the scanner settings?
blending pencils are great and so is painting I just dont have the time for that now :C

I get it...
BTW I love your signature... it's very true. A teacher said to my class one day that no matter how good you try to be at something, that there will always be someone better than you (which was a bad idea to say to the class, considering that a majority of them are lazy, uninspired students, and I found it very criticizing to me). But I feel that striving to be the best will only make you better, until you are there, and you can compete with yourself and become better than you were before.

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-07-31 23:50:13 +0000 UTC]

O thanks so much, I actually spent quite a long time trying to come up with that. Actually the whole thing didn't even fit into the siggy space, I want it to be
Always Drawing...
Good, but never great...
Finished, yet never complete...
Corrected, yet never flawless...
Striving for perfection is a long hard road
And when you get there...
you still have yourself, to compete with....
~Sammacha

And I'm not sure about agreeing or disagreeing with your teacher for saying it, mind you that the uninspired people don't care regardless of there being a better person lol. Anyways its the truth, and I don't think they meant it to be criticizing. I think they were actually trying to say, don't be to hard on yourself with your art because no matter how good you are there is always someone better and no matter how bad you think you are there are always tons of people who are way worse lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

segasonic360 In reply to sammacha [2012-08-01 01:39:13 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! It's great
Yeah, you're right about that. My uninspired classmates don't seem to even consider what says lol. And even though there are people who are better than you, there are people who are worse.
I'll just let you know that you're sig doesn't apply to artists, but everything people compete for in their lives... I think it also tells us to appreciate the way we are. (IDK if you were trying to say that but that's what I see)

sammacha In reply to segasonic360 [2012-08-01 01:47:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, so don't take that kind of comment personally, take it with respect, at least thats how I see it.
Yes it is true that my little siggy/quote applies to everyone and everything, which I did realize later on after it was complete. originally I used it as a personal quote.
