While ostensibly an M-Con early warning platform for potential invasions by the Earth Union, in truth it sees far more use as a major stopping point for the bolder smugglers traveling between the two territories. The M-Con Central Office doesn't really care what small-time transports and privateers are up to, however the Union forces take a dim view of those that deal in contraband.

Yatziv was upgraded from the normal Taanach pattern starbase with extremely powerful shields and direct weaponry. The border itself is usually quiet, neither side wishing for renewed confrontation given their larger problems elsewhere or willing to colonize systems in such a potentially vulnerable location. The nearby minor civilizations have gone to great lengths to maintain neutrality, welcoming humans and their allies form both factions, the standard protocol being that the locals only entertain visitors from one faction at a time on a first-come, first-served basis. Union visits are rarer because they see little value in interacting with perceived lesser lifeforms while M-Con mercenaries and prospectors are all too happy to partake in whatever distractions and vices they can find.
