Description Been experimenting with a new style a lil bit here and there. Something quick and sketchy- I like how its coming out so far. It's making character design a breeze.

This is Jade, one of the 4 members of Kittens with Spikes.

You see, once upon a time, I decided it was time to have a band somewhere in my stories. I started out with that drawing you see in that link up there, then completely gave up. Pretty much never drew any of them again, except probably twice in that 8 years they've been sitting in my sketchbook. So I decided that, since they were so old, and I suddenly had this wave of inspiration, they MUST be redesigned.

Step 1 was Jade. Why do I post her last? I DUNNO!

Anyway, Jade is the keyboardist. She was the first one that I redesigned, and so I ended up experimenting with her race the most. How did she become a cat-girl? The band is called Kittens with Spikes- how the hell do you think. In a way, I kinda like how she came out the best, which is weird, because I rarely ever like the first one i finish.

Keep an eye open for the other 3.

People seem to be just sayin that alot >.>
I'm curious as to what makes it so... amazing...
>.> Other than the fact that it takes about 2 hours to finish...

Because you got the idea down, we get it, so maybe it doesn't look super finished but I think that for getting ideas going its a nice way to work. She has an interesting outfit, the pose isn't overly static and also she looks like a tiefling.

HA. Those are ears, man. ears... not horns.

Though its been a damned long time since I've done anything with tieflings. this could be an acceptable route to take.

I may ponder on it.

Also: its a fast way to work, and this is something I've been aiming for for ages. Unfortunately, its starting to seem like the longer I do it, the longer its taking to do each piece, as I inch closer and closer to the normal wrist-breaking style I usually output. Its maddening.

But it sure does make character design easier.

p.s. - It might be more accurate to say lack of clarity than lack of details.

Well, there is a little bit of psychology there, yes. Its a known fact that the brain always tries to seek out familiar forms in what it sees- specifically a human face or figure. I think that with the vague lines, the brain can more easily interpret proportions and anatomy that are correct or more appealing, leaving the work up to the viewer's brain instead of the artist.

Basically, your brain is letting me be lazy. When you first looked at it, I bet you didn't even notice her left elbow is impossibly narrow....

But the motion thing is something I never really considered, because it doesn't really look in motion to me. I guess I can see where it would create the illusion of a dynamic, moving pose...

Oh human brain, why u so complicated.

My first thought would be that the sketchy lines give a sort of false sense of motion and of being more animated or lively than a static pose normally would be. Looking at it makes me feel like it should be a single frame in an animated .gif or something.

Also now that I think of it, the lack of detail also helps with the sense of motion, seeing as how details are harder to see on a moving subject.

Maybe but attitude and style definitely play a roll here. Like for example this is a person i would really like to meet and that's not common amongst ppl i see. Even if i find them attractive or they have similar interests.
