Description Materials used:
Pastel and colored pencil on black velour paper.
Reference picture from
Ceridwens Gallery [link]

This is the first time that I've drawn on black velour paper. It was quite interesting. The artwork is really exciting to look at in real life because you can see the softness of the paper which makes the monkey look quite real.

Came across this picture in the group :icon#Draw-My-Photo: and knew that I had to try this one. It's so beautiful. Thank you to Ceridwens Gallery for allowing me to draw this picture. Check out her gallery. She has some gorgeous photographs as well as traditional artwork.
Here is an example of her traditional work that I love:

You certainly have an eye for details. It's apparent here. The eyes, are really well done. They're the first things I noticed. The fur is very...furry looking
and...everything is as it should be,in my opinion.lol Very nice work!

After me? I'm anything but wild. I'm actually pretty mellow. My goofiness, perhaps? Don't pay any attention to that.lol
Oh yea. That's what was missing. HUGE ivories. Yep!
You're very welcome!

OH yes, I should re-name it, born to be goofy. JK...I love your goofiness.
Yes HUGE ivories would really enhance it. Then it would be over the top awesome and I would get a DD.

Just say you messed up and it's really a wip. You forgot to put the teeth in. You'd get a DD then,I'm sure.
It's nice to be entertaining. Thanks.

Yay! I'm glad that you like it. When I saw how good your artwork was, it made me nervous to even attempt it. I like the way that it turned out, although the blue on it shows up quite bright on DA for some reason. I might take a new picture of it to see if I can get it to look a bit more natural. I also cropped part of the picture off when I took the picture of it with my camera. Maybe I should try my scanner, but that ususally makes things look even worse. Anyway, you are welcome for the feature. Have a great weekend!

AtelierKunz In reply to SandieBlair [2010-11-06 18:08:20 +0000 UTC]

No need to be nervous. Your artwork is great! I like the little bit of blue in it, cause it makes it look more alive (for some unknown reason) I wouldn't recomment scanning (if your scanner is equally bad as mine it's just not worth the effort) Have you done postwork on the contrast with your photo? I'd recomment a bit less contrast in the face with exactly this amount of contrast in the eyes. (you can do this with masking in photoshop, as you probably already know)

SandieBlair In reply to AtelierKunz [2010-11-06 18:18:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh thanks. I really don't know how to do masking on photoshop. I have photoshop 7 and a bamboo tablet, but I haven't a clue how to use either one of them well. Maybe I will try to figure it out. Yeah, I do have a pretty bad scanner which is why I usually just take a picture instead. Anyway, thanks again.

oh... right. Watch this [link] that should give you some basics about masking. Have a go and if you can't figure out how it works you can also send me your original photo of the drawing and I can try to fix the contrast for you ..

SandieBlair In reply to AtelierKunz [2010-11-11 15:22:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the info. I checked it out... It seems I may have to upgrade my photoshop. My version doesn't seem to have the mask. Oh well, it doesn't really matter I guess. Thanks for the offer of help though. You are so kind!

AtelierKunz In reply to SandieBlair [2010-11-11 16:31:22 +0000 UTC]

I've worked alot with photoshop 7. The mask is there.. just a bit more hidden. I've made you a screenshot to show what I mean: [link]
But you are right of course. It doesn't really matter. Your drawing is beautiful anyway!!
