Byron Howard said it came from naturally shed skunk fur... Well scaring a skunk with a scalpel will do the trick, though I'd probably piss myself first lol

1)This is a bit unlike Nick's personality.
Nick is more of the snarky, sly yet charming trickster/entrepreneur type, not a psychopath.
2)Byron Howard (the director of the movie himself) once tweeted this:
twitter.com/ByronPHoward/statuβ¦
Which probably means that Nick never had to shave the skunk's butt, but the fur was "naturally shed" by the skunk. Nick probably just stole the discarded fur to eventually sew it into a rug and then sold it to Mr. Big, falsely claiming that it's an expensive wool rug (not a good thing obviously).
So maybe this never happened.....
This is not to criticize the fanart in any way. I just find the theory, a bit flawed.

I'm more of the opinion that Nick heard Mr. Big wanted a panda fur rug and took the initiative to get one as a surprise, but he accidentally sent the package containing the skunk butt rug to Mr. Big instead, as Nick's clearly ashamed of what happened and, as we see in the movie, isn't the type of guy to do something like that to people he considers real friends. The skunk butt rug was probably meant for someone else, just another hustle, and Nick was able to go back and explain what really happened to Mr. Big after Judy got him back in The Family's good graces, as he wouldn't have had the chance initially because of how angry Mr. Big was at Nick for the perceived insult.Β
Just one more thing about Nick's life made better that he owes Judy for.Β

Also it was never mentioned in the movie that anyone ever owed any money to Nick.
I'm pretty sure he never had any sort of power over anyone in the first place.Β

The skunk was never murdered actually. The director states that the fur was naturally shed, so no murder.
Also remember when Nick says, "If the world's only gonna see a fox as shifty and untrustworthy, then there is no point in trying to be anyone else."
By this he probably meant that Nick did neither anything better nor worse than being a con artist.
This is why his character alignment is "Chaotic Neutral (not Evil).
I wouldn't really think of Nick as a psychotic skinner after this

He's just going to shave some fur, is all.
After all, as he said to Judy, it was a rug "made from the fur of a skunk's butt".

I hope I'm right.

Besides that though, Nick didn't take the skin, it was the fur instead.

π: 0 β©: 1
IncognitoMode77 In reply to FatRocka64 [2017-09-17 03:28:47 +0000 UTC]
And...there are plenty of *OTHER* ways he could have got it (that people have discussed), probably without even him himself having to be near the skunk...
Skinning a skunk itself is what I'm saying is stupid. He doesn't need the rug for money...he just got one and thought to sell it (even as shown here)...
There are also *plenty* of better ways to make money that Nick knows about...
I mean, this is not even a good/convincing argument you are presenting...and I'm not in the mood, so no need to argue.
You probably just want to believe in this...and I know no *good* reason why...but if that is the case, then whatever...
I'm just saying, I wouldn't want to think it a headcanon (with the reasons I gave).

FatRocka64 In reply to IncognitoMode77 [2017-09-17 15:16:18 +0000 UTC]
Well nick told Judy that he sold the rug for a very high price
π: 0 β©: 1
IncognitoMode77 In reply to FatRocka64 [2017-09-17 17:01:21 +0000 UTC]
And that doesn't invalidate any of my points as to how he got it.
All we know is that he sold it as an "expensive wool rug", that's why the high price for it. How he got it? We were never told.
These are really not convincing reasons. If you want to believe this (fsr), I can't tell you no. We believe some things due to conviction and not necessarily any reasoning. And that's fine...I think.
But that doesn't disprove me thinking that it is baseless/illogical, macabre and not what I would like to be a headcanon.Β
And, you can think whatever you want. So arguments are done.
You may or may not know that it is said Nick has a heart of gold (kindness and good nature) underneath the prickly persona he projects. Now whether you think he'd still be doing something like *this* depends on your viewpoint on morality.
Besides that as well, we never actually see him committing any violence of such sorts (and his connections with the group is ambiguous as best, so not a good reason).
