Original image done with watercolours, and edited in GIMP.....Haha im having fun with GIMP
I just found the "supernova" effect....and as you can see went a wee bit mad

personally i like the catoon effect combined with the colour treshold tool to turn a phot into a black and with image perfect for colouring
