At whom and why? OOh, Writer juices flowing...

I really wouldn't want Merry mad at me. I bet he learned a thing or two from Boromir and Eowyn..

He's got that bandage again.

I love your shading and the detail on his face!

No idea... It just came out this way. Usually, I just go with stuff when it comes out.

And yes, he did learn more than a few tricks from them. (And the bandage is to cover the gash in his head he got during his captivity with the orcs. I'm not sure why I kept it on him ever after that, except I rather liked the way it looked. Sort of rogue-ish, though I know very well it wouldn't really fit the story, and that he'd be more likely to let his scar show than not. )

I'm very glad you like the shading. It helped to have reference, (couldn't tell you where I got it from... )

Random coming-outs is awesome.

Ahh, it always annoyed me in the movies that his scar vanished by Entmoot.

I must admit, I have been a fan of yours for a while... since before I got a dA account. Then I found this while searching for LOTR stuff and rediscovered you.

Actually, you got me interested in Gundam Wing, though I still haven't watched it yet... mainly because Life is going at 100 MPH and I have three other anime going. Also, the wikipedia article is confusing about which series to watch first, especially when one is trying to avoid spoilers, and my anime freak friend couldn't help any.

It's your fault that Quatre is my favorite despite the fact that I haven't watched GW at all.

It's a minor detail, so I'm willing to forgive that. (It would annoy me way more if the scar was important to the story, and then vanished) .

That makes me very happy! Thank you so much for your kind interest in my art ^__^

Oh, trust me, I understand. I have quite the list of movies/series/books that I very much want to get into, but don't have time for right now. That's the story of our lives, really. As for which to watch first, start with the original series (New Mobile Report Gundam Wing is the official title, but everyone just calls it Gundam Wing) , which is 49 episodes altogether, then watch Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, which was a TV movie made to take place right after the series. That's about it ^__^

Hee! Awww! I'm so glad you like him that much You may change your mind after watching the series, but then again, you may not. If you ever get the chance, anyway ^__^ Q-bean is just sweet and adorable, but also a worthy opponent. He's smarter and stronger than he looks!

Actualy, my main beef are the characters who get butchered, like Faramir, Theoden, and basically everyone except Eowyn and Gimli

Indeed. Ah, the days when I could read every book I checked out...

AHH that's the problem. I searched Gundam Wing on Wikipedia and there were at least four different series so I backed away real slowly while reaching for the red X in the corner to avoid spoilers.

You just described exactly what I like in a man. I think Q-kun is going to stay as number one.

I honestly didn't have a problem with any of the portrayals in-movie. Faramir was the biggest change, but I am completely willing to accept it in-movie. In the books, most of Faramir's testing and character-growth happen before Sam and Frodo ever stumble into Ithilien. There is only that first interview, where Frodo acquits himself to Faramir's satisfaction after a few paragraphs of dialogue. Faramir later explains, after Sam accidentally reveals the purpose of their quest, that he had long ago decided not to ever go near the One Ring, or anything like it, which speaks volumes about his self-control and personal integrity. There is also the tension between himself and Lord Denethor, but it's mostly dealt with in the narration, and in hints here and there, apart from the brief dialogue

This works in the book, but the movie, with limits on time, also needs to ramp up the tension at that point. Having things happen the way they do in the book would be a huge pause in the action of a film, and for no apparent reason (it would seem, within the format of a film, like convenience to have everything resolved so easily) . What happens is what may have happened, had Faramir not already made his resolution about the Ring. Plus, it echoes Boromir's struggles, contrasting the difference between their characters, while also showing what inequality in parental treatment might inadvertently bring about.

(I also admit myself quite gratified at the movie having that lovely flashback after one of the many skirmishes in Osgiliath, of which Boromir was mainly in charge, to establish the relationships between father and sons. I thought it worked extremely well. ^__^ )

Sorry for the novel.... I tend to be rather pedantic when discussing LOTR. ^__^ '

And yes, where did all that free time go? *sighs*

*laughs* I don't blame you! It can be a bit confusing, especially since the original creators have recently started writing a sequel manga, plus the prequel mangas and the billions of unrelated Gundam series. Just stick to the two I mentioned for now, for your own sanity XD

He's been #1 for me since the beginning for those reasons. I love a man who fights only when he feels a moral obligation to do so (like protecting his loved ones) , and who would much rather live in peace, if given the choice. Plus, Q-bean is just adorable! Duo and Heero tie for a close second, and Wufei and Trowa constantly jostle for 3rd place. But, again, that's me. I hope you thoroughly enjoy GW!

Peter had no problem inventing totally original flashbacks with Arwen and Aragorn angst and the re-taking of Osgiliath (which I actually enjoyed), he could have explored Faramir before hand. Though I do see your point about timing.

PJ did do really well with that. While there are many point about the movie I abhor (or at least intensely dislke) There are also many parts I find amusing and touching, aka enjoy.

So, I've just decided to make my own version someday. the Movies are all well and good but when I read the books, it all plays in my head and it won't leave me alone... and heck, if they can make a new Spiderman movie so soon after the trilogy, they can make room for a BBC LOTR tv series in about twenty years. XD

Me too! We should get together some time and talk about it (I only know one person out side of my immediate family who has read it)

I think I will. Sanity is running away...

In fact, me and my sister are starting it tonight. We're having a marathon with a bunch of other stuff we're watch and I put my foot down and insisted we do GW. YAY!!

I actually saw cassette tapes for episodes 1-13 at Salvation Army and very nearly bought them but A) I was broke and B) half said they were the censored version. Considering the other two tapes probably had language at least and my siblings are quite young, the only time I'd be able to watch it (because of the position of our VCR) is when they were in bed. And the VCR is right next to my Dad's room and he sleeps light and goes to bed early.

So, sadly, that did not happen. But I'm making up for it now!

(Just wondering, Sub or Dub? Which do you prefer?)

Hey, that's the joy of it, is making your own movie or series. I always thought I wanted to make my own movie/series of LOTR as well ^__^ I'm still hoping they do a Harry Potter series, because I enjoy the movies, but they're not nearly good enough.

Yay! GW marathon! And I've never seen more than pieces of the original Japanese version/sub, so I couldn't say if I preferred it.

Lady-of-the-Shield In reply to SapphireGamgee [2011-10-18 04:18:20 +0000 UTC]

yeah. I wanted to make my own series before I knew the movies existed XD

I'd love to see your version. I've only read up to Book Four, but movie three wasn't good enough. (Sirius and Lupin are my favorites)

Actually, three times my sister and I have sat down to watch GW and THREE TIMES we've been interrupted. No cool, eh? So now that she's off face book/deviantart, we're gonna try again. XD Wish us luck!

Movie three certainly had its problems. I'm perfectly willing to accept changes from book to movie format, so long as they make sense. Even judging the movie apart from the books, there were things that were never explained or set up properly, and loose ends hanging, etc. But the movies got better as they went on. They were never like good enough, but at least they improved.

I wish you all teh luck in teh world! ^___^

Again, thank you very much! I actually draw them because I have a hard time representing the wide-open mouth (I don't know why...), so it's really all for practice ^_^'
