Description Partner to this piece . Fakir from Princess Tutu! A rough pose study from photo reference. Had to make up his hair and face, though, since the photo reference looked different. Also, this has a more dynamic background than the other picture. Meh.

Fakir looks so powerful and that HAIR. I love how swirly it is haha! The dramatic lighting really brings out the determination in his face, reminding me of that time when he danced alone in the studio with all those sparkles around him. Maybe it's just me but the shape of the glow about him looks like a duck...  a duck on its tiptoes with outstretched wings. Don't know if that was intentional, but to me it expresses that deep connection he had with Ahiru.
I dunno, now I'm ranting, too many feels from flipping through your gallery, let me just sit here and drool over everything.

You know, the background shape just came out that way, I never planned it.  But I can always pretend it was TOTALLY INTENTIONAL THAT'S DEEP SYMBOLIC STUFF RIGHT THERE.  *ahem*  XD  I like your version better XD

Holy crap.
This ... this is genius. Oh my god.

I came here from the Mytho deviation, and it's genius too.

I have the biggest soft spot for these boys; they're just so lovable in their own ways... and add that to my soft spot for ballet... and the beauty that is the whole Princess Tutu concept... and I'm about to explode!

You did a fantastic job of rendering a "real-boy" version of Fakir ... which is something I still haven't been able to do! I'm stuck on the Princess Tutu style; every time I try to draw them, they turn out looking far more anime-styled than I intended... and don't get me wrong; I think anime can be gorgeous! I'm just not the best anime artist!!

Kudos, kudos, kudos. This is so fantastic ... gah.

In a show full of characters I love, Mytho and Fakir tie for first place. They're just so adorable!! Plus, like you, I adore the concept! *cries* It's so beautiful!!!

I'm so happy you like this! It was fun to do, and when I found the photo reference, it looked enough like him that a little tweaking was all it would take

The top of his fingers are cut off in the print.

OK, I think I fixed it! The print sizing is kind of weird... Let me know if there are any problems!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bellona-Dancer In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-08-28 17:43:25 +0000 UTC]

That is better. Instead of the first digets of his fingers being taken off, now it's just the skin of his finger tips. X/
Is there a way to drag it down or something? To get it to fit in properly?

Thanks.

SapphireGamgee In reply to Bellona-Dancer [2012-08-29 00:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Is this better? (The weird thing is, in the preview image they were giving me, there was plenty of space between his fingers and the top. I don't know why they were giving you a different preview... )

*clicks around*
Ah. So it appears to be fine as a photo print (and a heck of a lot cheaper), but not as the other two, interestingly enough.

SapphireGamgee In reply to Bellona-Dancer [2012-08-30 00:12:34 +0000 UTC]

That is so weird because they're the same basic dimensions...or should be.... The prints should be automatically sized to fit once you specify the dimensions. *siiigh* I don't know what the deal is with that. I apologize >__< (Unfortunately, since it goes through DA, it's not within my control after a certain point. I could get it printed, but you'd have to pay the original price, plus shipping. If that's more up your alley, we could go with that.

Again an amazing picture. The pose here really reminds me of something out of a contemporary dance work called Swansong (even though I know it was Goggle images). Also the way the light hits his left hand and face... It just looks so great!

Wooow this is so so pretty! Fakir looks like Fakir even though he's drawn in a more realistic style! I love the dramatic shadows and how he's wearing his dark leotard with the sharp V neck (it's neat to see how many sharp angles are on his character design) and it's really cool how his body is almost cast in a dark shadow and you have the gesture down really well and this is a horrible grammatically incorrect run-on sentence but I don't care because FAKIR BEAUTY!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SapphireGamgee In reply to duvete [2012-08-21 04:02:03 +0000 UTC]

Run-on sentences don't matter when it's Fakir! I'm so happy you like this, especially because your PT art is so ridiculously good! (The guy in the photo reference was wearing this exact thing, except I did have to make it a v-neck. As soon as I saw the photo, I knew I had to use it. It was so Fakir! )

sneakolai [2012-08-21 00:15:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I do love the shading on the skin, there, and love the monochrome approach. The black is a bit too much, too saturated, I think. A few points on the left leg and foot seem a bit off, though I'm hard-pressed to be more specific than that.

I think the pronounced dynamism works, given the characters. Mytho: not exactly terribly dynamic. Fakir: hells yeah.

As ever, thanks for manning these guys up.
