Description I posted this on my Tumblr, but decided that I would also put it on here. Raven Mytho was drawn in my style, so he's got way more muscle on him (maybe too much...but if you've ever seen actual ballet dancers, they're not the stick-thin waifs portrayed in the anime. That doesn't bother me, though, because it's a stylistic choice, and when has anime ever been accurate? XD I do love the anime's style, and Mytho is one of my favorite designs! ) He may lose a bit of his present bulk if I draw him again, because he's still supposed to be a teenager. We'll see what happens.

Mytho's "smile" is supposed to be somewhat insane and 'off', but I'm not sure anyone will pick up on that. It's probably too small.

I have to admit that while the Raven incarnation is interesting and fun to watch (and probably fun to play XD ) I was SO glad when he overcame it and became whole-hearted Siegfried.

It's kind of sketchy, and I'm not sure I like it, but...oh well.

Ahh. Still haven't seen that, but I have discovered the Wii has Netflicks, and I know it's therein because my SIL found it that way (and she thinks Sailor Moon is too cutesy XD ). So, there's hope!

It's really an awesome anime, nothing like you'd expect even from the first episode. It takes the usual shoujo tropes and plays around with them in an interesting and intelligent way. Plus, if you love classical musica, fairy tales and/or ballet you'll love this

Kazzellin In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-08-05 22:30:05 +0000 UTC]

All I know is my SIL has apparently seen it, and she's the one who thinks Sailor Moon is too cutesy (then again, I doubt she's seen the original Japanese language version; anything that's been chopped and pared down for kindergarteners when it's supposed to be for middle/high schoolers is going to be too cutesy, just by difinition). XD SOunds aweseom, though! ^__^

I've never cared for Sailor Moon, but I didn't have the patience to sit through more than a few episodes, to be honest. But Princess Tutu...yeah, one of the best anime series out there.

A lot of people over here have such affection for it, though, because SM was one of the first animes in wide-release in the U.S. so I can understand why the fandom exists.

I wouldn't know. I tend to generally stay away from fandoms that are about one specific thing. (anime in general, fine - gaga over XYZ anime? not really. GW is actually an exception to this, now that I think about it. :/ )

Lol, I really like it! (And nice explanation you gave in the description...and yeah...men ballet dancers are beasts. Women, too, for that matter. ><).

This may sound odd but for some reason this reminds me of Cabaret / Nazi Germany... 0,o
In a good way, though. If that can be taken in a good way...>,>

SapphireGamgee In reply to Mantamus [2012-05-27 02:33:30 +0000 UTC]

I know, huh? They have these massive thighs, especially! I may trim Mytho down a bit in future, because I think he's a bit bulky for a 17-18-ish ballet dancer, but not much. He'd have some muscle on him!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Omigosh, that is so true! And it takes place in or around Germany, so you're not far off! It's the costume, I think. I love how the costumes really are true to what would be seen in a ballet, even this craziness (though Kraehe's outfit would have a nude-colored panel, rather than...what it is XD )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mantamus In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-05-27 06:06:21 +0000 UTC]

In my (fail) ballet class there's actually one guy who looks EXACTLY LIKE MYTHO except his hair is not white and his eyes are not yellow, obviously. But he's still pretty young...and just starting to do more lifts / partner dances...and I guess all the girl's are afraid he's gonna drop them. ><

But man...to do all those leaps and lifts those (obviously fat XD) ballerinas, those men have to be tough! Like gymnasts!

But you're right he does look a bit older in this.

LOL...Oh gosh...Princess Tutu Nazis...that's a scary thought. But I could totally see this being turned into a WWII drama...The Raven being...oh gosh...
And thank God that real ballet tutus have nude inserts...cause then you can get away with them in cosplay and use the excuse that you're just being true to real life. ><

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SapphireGamgee In reply to Mantamus [2012-05-28 03:27:50 +0000 UTC]

(May I ask why it's a "fail" ballet class? ) And that is so cool, actually! I'd ask for pictures, but that sounds really stalker-ish.... XD He'll get better at the lifts, and he's probably stronger than he looks if he's been taking ballet long enough. (We've been having guys do lifts in our show, and none of them are dancers XD )

Absolutely! And the girls have to be strong to stay up in those lifts. They make it look so easy...

That's why I'm going to tone him down next time. Just a smidgeon.

I just imagined the Raven with a toothbrush moustache and comb-over......and I think we just got into the realms of farce XD But yeah, having the crow/raven minions be faceless goose-steppers would be very frightening. (No nude panels=wardrobe malfunction=you just lost your job) .

Lol sure. It's fail cause I'm the oldest person in there (minus my Spanish teacher...that was an awkward moment when I realized who it was ><). The majority of the class being 12 and under (there's like 2 12 year olds). AND I'M LIKE THE WORST ONE cause it's obvious I wasn't built to do ballet, but screw it, it's been a life-long dream of mine~ (I'm like that creepy closet ballet fanatic who hums the mazurka of Coppelia and flips out over the super girly pink, frilly, flowery costumes we get~ X3).

IKR. I also take Pilates for ballet dancers and so all the classes are mixed together...let me tell you those girls ARE BEASTS. ;_; Maybe one day...><

Lol totally...Hitler Raven...oh gosh...And you're right, those creepy raven things are scary enough...it would be amazing staging though...Reminds me so much of Cabaret.

Hey, it's better if they start ballet young! And as long as you love what you do, it really doesn't matter how good you are. (And I will never understand why ballet has such a bad rep in the U.S. . Oh, and loving classical music is apparently uncool. *shakes head* ) Why not come out of the ballet closet and join me? XD Seriously though, I love ballet, but I need to learn more about it.... Our arts education is sadly lacking in this country.

They really are amazing! I could never make it in any kind of dance, so anyone who can do ANYTHING is automatically awesome, but ballet.... woooow.

I don't think I could ever take Hitler Raven seriously XD But they could do an oblique representation of Hitler and the Nazis. And teh staging would be marvelous!

Mantamus In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-05-28 04:56:28 +0000 UTC]

IKR! I just wish I would have started sooner when I first wanted to...but I was like...this body type? Uh, no. But now I regret it cause I could have had an extra 5 years...;_;
Lol at least I have a good natural arch and a long neck...those are like my only ballerina-like features (yes I have looked into it abnormally a lot). My cousin has actually been doing ballet -sinceshewasborn- and she's like top of her class and is just AMAZING, but she got turned down from the studio for being TOO TALL OF ALL THE STUPID THINGS and so she decided not to pursue ballet...ITS SO SAD THOUGH HOW MUCH THEY TYPECAST or however you'd say that. I miss the olden, golden days of ballet...
-causeIactuallyfitthatbodytypealmostperfectly- Lol!

Pffft I love classical music. I WENT TO MY FAVORITE OPERA EVER FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I couldn't understand a word but its the music / presentation that counts. >< I mean if people actually took the time to listen to it they'd see why it's lasted all these years. So emotional...and moving...Augh!

But yeah. Arts in America (I'm assuming this is the country we're talking about) SUCKS. I'm sorry, but...yeah. I mean there are moments...but 99% of it sucks. I BLAME THE YOUTH. I BLAME EVERYBODY! Actually, though, I feel like this up-and-coming generation is going to do a lot to change that, though. My prediction~

At least we have Japan...whose story-telling beats about 90% of all American storytelling with some of even the crappiest anime...and I've seen crappy anime...and it still beats...I mean...MY CAT FROM HELL? WHAT ARE WE WATCHING, AMERICA!?

^(Sorry I got off on a major tangent there...I could go on and on for hours / pages. I'll just stop now. ><)

Yeah...I've been doing dance for forever...but ballet always intimidated me cause there's actual technique. You have to practice daily to get good...not even just practice but stretching / strength-building. To then have someone tell you you're too tall. >< Gosh it's harsh.

Lol...no Hitler Raven. But that idea...cause wasn't one of the Nazi symbols like a falcon or bird of some kind? Or am I just tripping?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SapphireGamgee In reply to Mantamus [2012-06-04 03:26:33 +0000 UTC]

At least you have a neck. I don't XD And there is no part of me that has ever been, or ever will be, suited to ballet. I have definitely seen the shift to anorexic-looking dancers. Anorexia is everywhere *shakes head* . Except it's not too popular being anorexic in countries where there isn't enough food. But if you love dancing, then do it! No matter the typecasting and all ^__^

Classical music makes me so happy! What is your favorite opera? The one you went to? I'm not as versed in operas as I am in purely instrumental works, but I've always wanted to see La Boheme.

Yes, America. *siiiiiiiiiiigh* I love my country, but we do not appreciate the Arts as we should. You can't put the Arts on standardized testing, so it's automatically assumed to be useless. I could go on and on, but I'd rather not aggravate my ulcer >__<

I wouldn't say Japanese storytelling always trumps American storytelling. I think it just depends. And it's hard to compare because we value different things in America when it comes to good storytelling. We also have different conventions and archetypes; and the nuances of the storytelling language are not the same. (Plus, since we grew up with American storytelling we tend to think it's old hat, but the Japanese don't seem to think so... And don't bring up reality television to rain on my parade XD )

Even if they tell you you're too tall, you can still dance. You've proved you can follow through on very tough training and, as I said, if you love it, find a way to do it your way!

I'm not sure....all I know is the symbol of the German monarchy was the double-headed eagle...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mantamus In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-06-07 05:55:41 +0000 UTC]

You don't have a neck? Aw, it's okay. We all have things about ourselves we wish we could change -cough-mystubbybowshapedlegs-cough- but we also have things about us that are BEAUTIFUL~ Lol!
I just want to keep at it until I can go en pointe. And then I want to learn all the Swan Lake dances as well as the Dying Swan and dance in an empty theatre or in my room or something. I just want to be able to do it! Gosh so jealous of the dancers in our studio...;_; WHY DIDN'T I STICK WITH BALLET!?

That's an interesting observation, though. Those in countries with (actually) anorexic people just don't seem to have the same appreciation for it that we do. Herm~ Just goes to show that no one's ever satisfied. ><

IKR Classical music is the best! Well actually I like a lot of different types of music, but there's just something special about classical~ It's just so...beautiful. So emotive. So technical and sweet and passionate and AW! I love et~
My favorite opera is Don Giovanni since Mozart is my favorite composer in every way shape and form and AN OPERA ABOUT A WALKING TALKING STATUE FROM HELL? Come on, that's just epic. Lol! Plus the music is so delightfully dark and dramatic~ La Boheme would be amazing, too, though. Such a classic! Also sad...>,>

Lol! Just the way you wrote that...America. *siiiiiiiiiigh*. So true! And yeah, it is one of those "on-and-on about subjects." But I think it's a lot of the world that's like that, too. >,> Hurrah!~ Modern era!

It's so true! I could spend hours comparing Western and Eastern storytelling! Gosh it's so interesting (maybe I'm just a nerd but yup). Especially the way that the West and East view storytelling and animation in particular. I just think Hideaki Anno put it best. There's just something about animation that you just can't do with any other type of storytelling. Of course all medias are like that but especially animation. It just has so much hidden potential~ Which some brilliant minds have managed to unlock. But it's true that there are always decent authors and directors out there. I mean art-house films are flipping amazing. And blockbusters, too, in their own way. No other country really seems to appreciate films like America does. I guess it's similar to how animation is in Japan. Except that films have reach a universal level of acceptance because they are so easily accessible and acceptable for all ages (depending on the film, I suppose). But ugh I'm preaching, lol! ><

I know! I encouraged her to keep up with it but she's convinced that she should just give it up. >,> Meh. I think just being to go en pointe and make it all look so effortless is amazing.

Maybe that was it. >< Germany/Austria/Prussia/Hungary/All those mid-European kingdoms were not my friends in history, lol. They all just got so complicated. @,@ Especially the Holy Roman Empire. Then again European history is complicated in general.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SapphireGamgee In reply to Mantamus [2012-06-18 06:25:11 +0000 UTC]

I have incredibly manly shoulders/ribcage and arms, and my neck is thick and shapeless (thanks, Dad >__< ) . I'm not really attractive in any way, but I think it's better. I've noticed how beautiful people are treated and thought of, and how they kill themselves trying to keep their fleeting looks. I don't know, I'd rather be as I am. (It only annoys me when I can't find tops or necklaces that fit, but such is life XD )

Could you ever get back into ballet? If you love it, do it!

Well, they're too busy trying to survive. Once we get past mere survival, human beings have time to be dissatisfied with things.

I adore classical music! And we use classical to mean pretty much everything from Gregorian chant to modern instrumental movie soundtracks…that's moor ethan 1,000 years worth of development and refinement all smooched into one term. It just gives me such joy to listen to!

Hahahahahahahaha! This is true! I haven't seen Don, but I know I've heard the music. Mozart is hard to get away from, even if you don't like him, and I do, so…yeah XD I always wanted to see The Magic Flute (switching from opera to ballet, but… ) I need to see more opera! Barber of Seville is what I want to see as well. And I want to see Don Giovanni! (I could just scout it out on Youtube, couldn't I? D'OH! )

True. We're not the only country with that problem. I guess it especially irritates me because America is like one of those brilliant but lazy kids who could do SO MUCH BETTER!

It's true! Every medium has its own strengths. I think America, having the history we do with film, has a unique take on it. And we've had so many influences- German Expressionism, for instance. American film expresses so much about our nature as a country. And animation is no exception! I could watch good animation all day!

Gads…en pointe…. It absolutely boggles my mind how anyone could do that! My aunt used to do ballet and she always came home with bruises and bloody toes. And she's a small, light thing.

History IS complicated, but I admit I like it. Especially any history before the 17 or 1800s. I don't know why… It would have been nice to learn more about Asian and African cultures, though. There was too much focus on European history in school.

Much as I love the original style, I actually find it really cool when fanartists draw the characters slightly more muscular/with more realistic proportions. The Raven Prince is looking quite fabulous here, and the vivid red of the background really makes the image pop.

I'm sure he has some relapses, though I don't imagine they'd be as bad as when he didn't have all his heart. (I always assumed that having his whole heart would make him able to resist the Raven's blood. Maybe he's more susceptible when he's severely ill or injured? Then he'd hit on the nurses and ask for their hearts XD )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

duvete In reply to SapphireGamgee [2012-06-01 20:34:56 +0000 UTC]

Omg Rue will need to stay by Mytho's side at the hospital just so she can slap his hands with a rolled up newspaper whenever he hits on any of the nurses. xDDDD That amuses me a loot!

Oh no, I picked up on his insane "possession" right off the bat.
This matches with the intensity of Tchaikovsky's music (especially Act III) nicely. He feels so bold and brash, and a touch dangerous. His musculature only adds to the power of the image. He looks much more realistic and grounded. Nice texturing in the back!
