I realized that after I colored the picture. Β I think the one I had looked at briefly looked brown (maybe his eyes were in shadow) . Β Subsequent pics have him with green eyes.

well, his eyes are kinda hazel-ish green so I can see why it would be confusing.

I give him greenish eyes when I color him now.

I don't blame you. It does suit him better.

They're closer to Dominic Monaghan's eyes, anyhow.

Yes, but the book is way older than he is. Oh well, good job anyway.

Oh, certainly. Β Once upon a time I had my own versions of the hobbits and I used to draw them quite a lot. Β I chose to use the movie designs because they're more recognizable.

Have you seen the Hobbits from the Lord of the Rings cartoon? Yeesh.

GAH! Β BRAIN BLEACH!!!! Β I remember some critic or other comparing that version of Sam Gamgee to a misshapen potato, and I'm thinking they were being kind. Β The other hobbits weren't much better. Β And Boromir! Β UGH. Β BOROMIR Y U LOOK LIKE STEREOTYPICAL OPERA VIKING? Β And half the elves looked stoned, and Galadriel.... Β Just....ugh...bad, bad, BAD.

Hahaha! The honesty. Also, can anyone tell me why Aragorn looked like a Native American?! The Hobbits could have been a lot worse.... take the cartoon version of The Hobbit as an example. After seeing the cartoon Hobbit film, I was grateful that The Lord of the Rings cartoon wasn't as bad.

He totally did! Β Like...I fully expected the stereotypical "how" and everything. Β At least John Hurt has a fabulous voice, but still! Β I actually liked the designs of the Rankin-Bass hobbits better, I'm not sure why. Β Their dwarves were especially good design-wise, IMHO. Β But as far as hobbits go the Peter Jackson version is the best.

Thank you! Admittedly, I've had some practice in drawing bruises...I seem to like hurting the characters I draw O__O But they're so cute that way! You just want to comfort them!
Someday I will. I have wanted to, because that's one of my favorite parts!

He looks very noble standing there, even hurt. I'm not sure if I should hug him, bow, or salute.
I love the coloring, especially on his hair and eyes.

Have to go retro, I suppose? (I have no room to put my easel and paints, so I wouldn't be able to do anything!)

Thank you for the compliments!
I find digital coloring easier in some ways. No mess to clean up ater, and there's that lovely "undo" command. Plus, my actual hand-coloring gets really messy even on just the paper. I like to use my fingers a lot, though, for smudging, and I almost never draw the originals digitally, but hand-draw them first and scan them in. It's a system that seems to work.

ooh! very nice! I don't have the patience for digital colouring, so I appreciate your skills all the more!
I agree with Mommyfish that he looks both serious and like a hobbit, but ohhhhh! I just wanna hug him! but not too hard, because I don''t want to hurt his arm *^*

I'm so glad you caught that, it's what I was goinbg for. I did Merry's eyes more turned-up, which makes him look impish, yet serious.

I love your Merry here, he has the hobbity look (boyish, but a hobbit) and there's something more serious in his eyes...like he's grown past the hobbit he used to be.
