Description

Call it dumb if you like, but learning the Polcan were based off marbled polecats really changed how I’d draw them. I mean, I love ferrets as much as the next person, but marbled polecats.

The Polcan works with bringing in Nessa trade. She’s been doing it for a while, and enjoys her job. The Felis is a smug thirteen year old. He has a not-so-small beeby crush on the Polcan, since a) she’s pretty and b) her goggles are shiny, and since he also wants attention (because cats) he goes after the Polcan the best way he can think of: reading her pretentious Felis literature.

The only reason she hasn’t told him she hates and to scram is because he’s still got kitty fat on him and she doesn’t want to hurt his feelings.

I think the goggles are a nice touch.

After all, who doesn't love goggles?

I like that it reads as female without being generic.

Getting my female characters to look female without resorting to too many generic visual cues requires some effort, but I'm trying. It gets easier the more I practice thankfully.

The worst thing is when people don't bother to make it stylistically consistent. Like when the females are the only ones with hair or when all males look cartoony or beastly but the females have to look pretty. Apparently asking for some subtlety in design is too much.

The lack in design variation has always bothered me. I can deal with some designs where only the females have hair, though it's not my favorite, but when their designs are always stuck in a specific box of boundaries, nah. I avoid giving them breasts. It's not my style. Really, I prefer my anthro characters way heavier on the anthro side.

Is the title a Guardians of the Galaxy reference? Because that made the "Polcans look like raccoons and now I can't unsee it" situation even worse for me

Nah, it's not. For me telling the two apart is easy, mainly seeing since raccoons have very different face structure than polcan, despite the similarities.

Yeahhh... It's the face markings that throw me off. But at least I can start unseeing the whole raccoon thing now.
