The WHOLE fear aspect (at least for me) of FNaF revolves around the loss and the realism of that childhood innocence. The animatronics themselves aren't scary, but you're made to fear them based on what they may do to you. We never really see any of the animatronics actually harming people for the most part- Its mostly hinted at or implied.
The Nightmare and Twisted "animatronics" completely fuck this critical aspect. They try so hard to be edgy and scary yet they only end up being just outright stupid and comical. I've never been once scared by any of the Nightmares in the times I've fully played throughout FNaF 4. The jumpscares don't even get to me.
While I actively wait with dread at FNaF 1, I sit back and laugh at FNaF 4- The so called "scariest" game from the series.

You know, what I actually agree with that. The nightmare animatronics aren't scary AT ALL, just plain derpy, especially Nightmare Bonnie. They're way too unrealistic and Scott tried too hard to make them scary
