    Beau fidgeted on the edge of Aoife’s bed, feeling restless among the downy blankets and overly cutesy embroidered pillows that clustered at the mattress’s end. He looked up and watched as Aoife’s form busied about the space, ducking into a closet and pulling out pieces of clothing probably befit for a more covert mission that fae might be going on.
    Something about this still didn’t feel quite right, and Beau didn’t like it. He didn’t like anything that could put Aoife in harm’s way, though he trusted faer to not be stupid about this. And fae would be with Hawthorne, too, who was also quite resourceful and intelligent when the time called…
    So why couldn’t Beau stop worrying?
    He bounced his leg on the bed and frowned deeper as Aoife dug in drawers and began pulling out a flashlight, a pack, and some other things that might come in handy.
    “Are you sure this is safe?” Murmured Beau, glancing between the growing pile of supplies and Aoife’s gentle, thoughtful face. Aoife’s attention snapped away from the things in their hands and they looked up, meeting Beau’s gaze. Seeing the concern in xer expression, faer own softened instantly.
    “Of course, Beau. You know me.” Aoife reached out and cupped Beau’s face with one hand, tilting faer own slightly. “I wouldn’t do anything reckless, and if I thought I was going to get in big trouble, I would just leave. And even if I got in trouble, they wouldn’t do anything to me! I would be back in your arms as soon as can be.” And to prove Aoife’s point, fae dropped onto the bed and wrapped around Beau, holding him close again. Beau reciprocated, drawing Aoife closer and pushing his face into the crook of faer neck. He continued to hold them like that, before speaking a bit muffled into their shoulder.
    “Maybe… maybe you could bring someone along who could help you keep out of trouble?” Beau was already biting xer lip apprehensively. Xe felt Aoife shift against xem, but not let go.
    “Like, who are you thinking?”
    “Well… don’t laugh, but he’s a ranking official, right? Maybe Reed-“ Beau was cut off as Aoife trembled with laughter, which xe groaned into. “I know, I know, but he- well he knows his way around Seajewel, and being of a certain rank, maybe they’ll listen to him if he asks the officials to let you guys see the sphere?”
    Aoife pulled back just enough from Beau to be able to look xem properly in the eyes. A hint of laughter still danced in faer eyes, but it left when fae saw Beau’s completely innocent expression. Beau genuinely thought taking Reed along as a safeguard would be a good idea (if admittedly a bit of a pain in the ass).
    And Aoife knew it.
    Fae sighed, and held Beau’s face in faer hands.
    “I’ll… give Reed a try, okay? No promises, but I’ll try. Don’t worry about me, though, alright? I can look after myself. That’s how my momma raised me.”
    Beau reluctantly nodded back. Aoife’s soft smile grew, and fae leaned in, first kissing Beau gently, and then delivering another, more loving, kiss.

    “I promise, Beau. I promise I’ll be safe.”
