Well, the comic is much simpler than this. This shading style is a mixture of soft and cel shading, too make it look "fuller", and I don't do the detailed lighting in Echelon. And the background is more detailed than the comic.

And now I have an idea about the comic... about Zuberi... Let me explain.
Zuberi was the king and he had a son The Lion King: Echelon P. 53 (Zuberi had black mane and this lion has brown). Ok, so Zuberi's son was Faraja mate. The had a son (Chana), but something happened and Faraja's mate died (I think he fought someone....). She couldn't be the queen alone so she gave Chana to Rahisi.

I think it has too! It's a style I've long tried to mimic but... can't seem to capture

Awww, well, I use Sai which is really good for shading. Also, for the little highlights and light splashes, color dodge in Photohop does a good job replicating what I use in Sai.
