Description The captain smashed aside her cabin door in her haste to get on deck. The crewman who had been sent belowdecks to retrieve her appeared behind in the doorway, his face apprehensive. She dashed over to the prow of the ship, somehow sensing where the mage would be.
The woman was curled in a fetal position on the wooden deck, her arms clenched around her head and her eyes pinched tight shut. Throwing back her long coat, the captain knelt down next to the mage's prostrate form. She looked back at her crewman, as though unsure of what to do, and reached out a tentative hand.
"Lady... are you alright?" The captain jerked her hand back almost as soon as she'd touched the woman's shirt, and the mage's body spasmed.
"Don't touch me!" the woman hissed, writhing on the planks. " Don't get near me, not now!"
The crew members that had gathered behind their captain moved a few quickly-shuffled steps away from the mage, but the captain stayed squatted next to her.
"What's wrong? Are we in danger?" She leaned forward to rest on her knuckles, closer to the woman on the deck. "Tell me!"
"You have no idea! You cannot possibly have any idea!" The mage raised her head out of her arms and the captain lurched back at the movement. Her face was streaked by tears, though her eyes were still shut tight. "It's so bright!"
She shoved herself to her feet andΒ Β stumbled toward the stern, unnervingly avoiding the crew and other obstacles on deck even though her eyes remained closed. The captain rose and followed her, looking frustrated. She stopped halfway to the rail and crossed her arms over her chest.
"What are you planning to do, then?" she cried. "You can't swim back to land. We're days away from any port but the capital."
The mage stopped when her knees bumped the wooden rail, then turned to address the captain. The muscles in her neck and jaw were standing out against her skin, visible reminders of the pain she was in. She opened her eyes, and the captain raised her arms with a curse to shield her own eyes- the woman's lids had covered a blinding white fire that was now revealed.
"At this point," she said quietly, "I could fly back."

Both! They produce a kind of gas that people use to power... stuff. That's how they float cutely.

As if it were intentional, there's a lot of subordinate clauses.
