Description One of, if not my most favorite actor. Toshiro Mifune has been in countless Japanese films that have received tons of recognition here in the states and all around the world. Seven Samurai spawned a western remake known as the Magnificent Seven. The Hidden Fortress was George Lucas' inspiration for Star Wars (though the feudal settings coupled with swords and warring clans may throw you at first glance).

At any rate, here it is...my portrait of a man I would have done anything to have met.

NOTE
I've got a few things to do before this is finished, but it's pretty much all there. Some hair highlighting and shadows...that's about it!

EDIT
02.28.05 @ 1645hrs
Dropped the blur down quite abit...added my sig. That's about it!

02.11.05 @ 1520hrs
Lightened the shading on Mifune's right hand...it was too dark...too distracting. Tightened the crop (you won't even notice)

Very well done. I love how you've blurred his hands and the b/g to make his face stand out.

I love it! the blurred ahnd is especially cool, but I would've toned it down a tad. Just a little. Once again, your vector art is phenominal.

Hey thanks for the kind words. You know, I did have make a version with some slightly subdued shades...it just kinda lost something though. I couldn't tell ya what it was but my OCD kept telling me something was NOT right.

The face is very well done and clean. I like the out of focus hands, but I agree about the bottom one not fitting as well as the top hand. Excellent stuff though.

Not sure about the bottom hand, but the top hand is ace - plus it reminds me of Killer 7 (new Capcom videogame). Nice work!

I didnt say that b4 but I loved the blur for the depth of field Some tradicional vector freaks could say that its not a real vector anymore.. I just think thats bullshit. Anything is worth to make a piece looks more cool. Were doing art arent we?

SarshelYam In reply to versiani-vectors [2005-02-12 06:51:59 +0000 UTC]

That's what I say! And everything here was done in illustrator, so if that doesn't make it a Vector, I don't know what else does. Heh, technicalities!

that s totally awesome, that gaussianblur trick gives a great depth.

SarshelYam In reply to 6665 [2005-02-11 17:53:33 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Yeah, I was a bit hesitant to do the blur...sometimes that just screws up a perfectly good piece. Luckily it was FAIRLY acceptable in this one without being too distracting...I hope.

I don't believe I've watched any of this dudes flicks, but if they are as good as your vectoring then they must be pretty special! His eyes are really magnetic, plus I love how you've blurred the hands, they really centre his face. Great piece! Oh and your gallery is great too!

...dude I just checked out your gallery, WOW! I'm going to have to put you on watch. You've got some insanely awesome high-contrast vectors going on there.

I haven't looked at it all but I saw everything from Bowie in Labarynth, Ash from Evil Dead, Donnie Darko...and the effin Thundercats!!! STYLE all around!!

Anyhow, thanks much for the comment.

was looking around when i saw this, i thought "hey, that looks like toshiro mifune!" and wow, it IS him.

his portrayal of kikuchiyo is unforgettable, too bad he's dead, huh?

Yes...it is a shame. I love the mans work! As an artist he was flawless...as a man, well he was very proud and kind...he's kind of a hero to me I suppose.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scruffyronin In reply to SarshelYam [2005-02-11 06:18:09 +0000 UTC]

he's a real samurai.

i like the way he changes into different characters in every movie. irritating in seven samurai, proud and temperamental in hidden fortress and bum, slacky yet smart in sanjuro/yojimbo.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SarshelYam In reply to scruffyronin [2005-02-11 06:20:51 +0000 UTC]

Agreed, he's a master of cinema. I loved his portrayal of Musashi in the Samurai Trilogy...that was a flawless journey from an ambitious soldier eager for the taste of blood, humbled, a wanted man...and then strictly discipline as he followed Bushido! Ah...what a great movie!
