Description I *do* know that the bag is technically on the wrong side, but... minor details.

I'm not a huge fan of Dragonite (it's basically just a less badass version of Charizard), but he's certainly cute, and I've always really adored this character from the first Pokemon movie. I wanted to do something a little less traditional-inky-flowy-fierce, so I opted for cute and simple, and this is what I made. I almost made a few egregious errors in his design, but I caught myself just in time. XD

I really enjoyed painting the sky. The clouds were really nice with my new soft brush.

Sumi ink and watercolors.

You're so welcome!
I loved that messenger Dragonite from the first movie. Besides the Movie 2000 with Lugia, I think the first was my favourite. :3

It was so wonderfully creepy. And Mewtwo is such a badass. I love him.

The second movie is pretty cool--I love Lugia's theme--but the third one is definitely my favorite. It has the most interesting, least cliche-lame plot and such gorgeous visuals. I love it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Steer-By-The-Stars In reply to SarurunKamui [2012-02-24 05:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, yes. My heart broke for Mewtwo, poor thing.

That theme was probably my favourite part of the movie -- I have it on my iPod. That and the fact that I couldn't stop myself from having a massive facepalm while Ash was drowning or whatever and Misty was freaking out. The movies are awfully cliche, haha. There was also something incredibly amusing in the first one about Ash suddenly being cool with running into the middle of a fight after, what, breaking his ankle? Seems legit. And Pikachu crying when he dies gets me every time. Too sad!

I've forgotten the plot of the third one... I remember the second one that had Mewtwo in it, but I think that was before Power of One... Was that Lucario and the Mystery of Mew? I love Lucario -- he's one of my favourite Pokemon -- so if that's the one then yes, I loved the visuals with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SarurunKamui In reply to Steer-By-The-Stars [2012-02-24 05:32:19 +0000 UTC]

I have Lugia's song on my iPod, too--and I can play it on the flute.

They really are cliche... it was the prophecy that mostly annoyed me about the second one, because I just hate how Ash is ALWAYS the focus of things. I didn't mind him as a main character, but why couldn't it be Brock or Misty or some other stranger they have to help? (Though the "world will fall to ash" line is pretty cool.) And I dunno, you can do crazy stuff when you're high on adrenaline. Considering what Ash gets into, he's probably got a lot of it.

PokΓ©mon tears can bring people back to life! Yay!

The third one was about the girl who lives in a mansion and her father is studying the Ruins of Alph, and he brings home something which she accidentally triggers to release the Unown. The Unown start to make her wishes come true and create an Entei as her father. The Entei kidnaps Ash's mom and brainwashes her to be the girl's mom, and slowly the Unown start to turn everything into amazing crystal formations, and the house becomes this trippy crystal palace. So of course Ash and co. have to save his mom and everything else. It's interesting because the girl is innocent and pretty sympathetic because she loses her father, and yet she's sort of the antagonist because while she's trying to make her own life better, she's accidentally damaging everyone else's. Not to mention destroying the landscape by turning it into crystal. That's mostly why I like it--it has more layers and stronger characters than most of the other movies.

I never saw any movies after that, with the exception of the Jirachi one and the Zoroark one (in Japan! 8D). I enjoyed the Zoroark one purely because it was the first time in years I saw a Pokemon movie in theaters, and it was in Japan, where it's a huge deal. I still have this adorable promo keychain the theater gave out of Zoroark with Zorua nestled in her mane. <3

Oh, the jealousy. You have no idea. I used to be able to play flute, too! D:

Ugh, yes, I know. Pfft, Brock as the main protagonist, haha. That would be really interesting. And Ash should be, like... 25 by now. >:I ("and the world will turn to Ash." That was really cool, yeah. Slowking was probably my favourite character from Power of One besides Lugia, lol.)
Okay, yeah, I'll give you that one.

Hooray for tears!

Oh, yes, I remember! Spell of the Unown. I looooved that one; Entei, Raikou and Suicune are some of my favourite legendaries. I loved how Entei is trying to be this really protective father figure to that poor little girl and not realizing what he's really doing to the world. ;A;
That was one of the best movies. The trippy crystal palace was also totes cool. :3
The message to it was deeper than most of them, and the characters were all definitely better. I need to watch the movies again now, augh.

Whut. Aww, see the Lucario one. It was pretty good; it was sort of this "preserve the environment!" sort of pitch, but Mew is adorable and, like I said, I love Lucario. I saw Jirachi Wish Maker, from which I adopted a love for Absol, but I haven't seen any of the HeartGold/SoulSilver or Black/White movies.
Aww, wish I had one! So cute. <3

I honestly haven't been able to play my flute for a few months. I don't have access to a practice room in the music building and I don't exactly want to start playing in the middle of a dorm... XP It's very sad. Maybe next year.

Brock might be an interesting main character... he does make an excellent side character, though. He was always my favorite. I miss him.

And it's not really Entei, it's like a weird psychic construct of Entei, and it doesn't entirely seem to have a will of its own which is really interesting... I just love it. So much. I finally forced myself to just buy it, so hopefully I'll have that DVD by the end of the week...

With what people are saying, I think I will try to see the Lucario one soon. I do really like Mew. I wish I could find a good use for mine in the games... XD I guess I can find out what all the fuss over Lucario is, too.

I forgot Absol was even in that movie. I've just always thought Absol was pretty cool, I guess, though it was terrible in R/S/E. XD

I mean, the Zoroark movie is entertaining, but it's not super amazing and it doesn't really have any message at all so it seems kind of pointless, other than some random cool bits and funny scenes with Zorua... there was more stuff with Celebi and contrived villains and so on. Zoroark itself is awesome, though.

Oh nooo D:

He used to be one of my favourite characters -- he ought to come back! Who else is going to hit on every Nurse Joy of Officer Jenny he happens to come across? ;A;

Okay, yeah, that's true. I still love Entei, though.
Not entirely -- I kind of felt like it had some sort of free will within a set purpose that it couldn't control. So interesting, yes.
Ugh, must find on YouTube...!

Haha, Mew can learn, like, ALL the moves. It could be a pretty nice tank Pokemon if its Attack and HP are pretty high. AND it's super cute. :3
I'm not quite sure -- I always liked it in DP, and in this movie it has so much personality, it's practically better than the human characters. And Lucario is just really frigging cool. :I

It's just about the only thing I remember about it. It's cool -- I liked using it in the Mystery Dungeon games, but I never had any of the GB Pokemon games so I don't really know about using it in the traditional battling games.

I suppose so. Pokemon is kind of running out of ideas, too, pretty much. I love Celebi, though, and Pokemon 4ever was another of the good movies IMO, so I guess the Zoroark movie would be pretty interesting, even if it's not one of the deeper movies.

SarurunKamui In reply to Steer-By-The-Stars [2012-03-06 03:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Lol. Brock was great comic relief. But even his character got kind of mangled when they stopped focusing on his motherly side and mostly made him this love-struck know-it-all (sort of, but less pretentious). His character as it's introduced in the first few episodes is just fantastic.

Absol can only learn one Dark-type move (Bite) in R/S/E, so... it's kind of useless as a Dark-type Pokemon.

They really are running out of ideas. It's Pokemon! They can break a few barriers for once! And maybe actually try with one of their next plots, like they did with the first ones...

Steer-By-The-Stars In reply to SarurunKamui [2012-03-10 01:43:39 +0000 UTC]

That's true. I certainly liked him a lot better in the original.

Pfff, how completely useless. D:
(But, shh, it's still cool and I always catch every Pokemon anyway. :/)

I know, seriously. Like... stop trying to make a Pokemon out of a trash bag or an ice cream cone -- get original, people! I know there's more inspiration out there than that. :I
And yes, better plots. Ugh.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SarurunKamui In reply to MidxNight [2012-02-23 21:37:36 +0000 UTC]

For the most part, I'm not a huge fan of the newer ones. More often than not they're stiff and awkward, complicated, or just ugly. While the original Pokemon (first and most of second gens) were generally pretty organic, some of the newer ones just seem... forced? I don't like any Pokemon from 3rd gen except the starters, Kyogre and Groudon, and Absol, and I mostly only like Luxray, Froslass, and Dialga from 4th gen. (Might be missing some.)
5th gen is the most polar for me--some of their designs are among my absolute favorites (Haxorus <3) and some are among the worst yet IMO.
As for the games, 2nd gen is the best. The length, settings, I guess the plot, and so on were great. The first ones were fun, I didn't really like the 3rd gen graphics, 4th gen was somehow lacking (where are all the fire types??), but the 5th gen ones was very well-executed. Perhaps the most intriguing plot and characters so far as well as generally good gameplay and very pretty settings/graphics.

You?

MidxNight In reply to SarurunKamui [2012-02-23 21:56:50 +0000 UTC]

Don’t even get me started on the newer PokΓ©mon
When I was younger, there was only 150 PokΓ©mon to collect and that was awesome. I just loved how original they all were. You can really see how they were really thought about and the names were just awesome. Then the 2nd generation came out and it was all still, for the part, awesome The names were still pretty good. Now there was more to collect, but hay bigger collection.
Then the 3rd came out and that’s when I noticed they were all going downhill. The 4th and 5th only confirmed that.
However, I do agree with you, some were okay and nice. Then there were the others like Licky Licky, really? Really? How awful is the name Licky Licky? What drove the creators to make such a name as that!

Anyway…
I agree that they do seemed forced and you get the sense of β€œHow much more can we make to get more money?” feeling

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SarurunKamui In reply to MidxNight [2012-02-24 02:09:14 +0000 UTC]

There are more ways to make a pokemon unique than just adding colors to them or having random spikes everywhere (I'm looking at you, Garchop and Druddigon (which I totally almost spelled Cruddigon)). Also, have you noticed the overall color schemes have gotten a lot darker over the years? The first ones were very bright, but many newer ones have black and darker grays than were used before. I feel like it's important to let the Pokemon speak for themselves--just look at the ones such as Rapidash and, say, Vaporeon. They're normally shaped animals with natural-looking color schemes (I mean no weird patterns) and a simple extra element added to make them unique (fire/fins). Move to something like Infernape... it's a monkey, which is cool and its head is on fire, which is cool, and whaaaat it's got all these weird swirlies? And blue fingers? This doesn't look like an animal. And those things on Salamence don't look like wings. It's all about suspension of disbelief. Samurott is one of the newer ones I really like for this reason--I could actually imagine this thing somehow existing or evolving from nature.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MidxNight In reply to SarurunKamui [2012-02-25 17:15:54 +0000 UTC]

Ha-ha that is so true. The creators tend to add a lot of just random spikes to certain PokΓ©mon and think
β€œHay this is cool let’s keep doing this and have no regard to what the people want and let’s just draw colors from hat and use them even though they don’t match like they used too. Yeah we know Druddigon looks like a spiky piΓ±ata, so what? ”
Let me sing a little song…

NO!!

I really wish they would think about what they are doing. Or maybe separated the newer stuff into a different species all together and call it Othermon or something more creative than that mdr (lol in French)

It is true that some of the newer ones are not all that bad, like you said Samurott not that bad and would fit into nature. At least that one is more realistic and congratulations creators for getting one right!!!!

It’s just sad that a lot of them feel like they are forgotten, nothing like the originals. Remember when Mewtwo and Mew were the strongest ones? Remember how cool they were? I loved Mew, he was so cute!!! Oh and Lugia, I loved Lugia. They made it so Ash in one of the newer episodes finds a baby Lugia. That was so irritating!

It's a silent movie about silent movies, basically. The charming Jean Dujardin plays a big-time silent movie actor named George Valentin, and struggles when he has conflicted love, "talkies" start coming into the limelight, and the Depression is on the rise. It's wonderful, very well-done.

The Grey... not sure I've heard of that.

I understand where they are coming from, but I think they maybe overeating a bit.
