Raskolnikow i Razumichin: "Nie ma spiny..." (Raskolnikov & Razumikhin: "Don't bother yourself...")
- 15.09.2012

*** WORK DESCRIPTION ***

My first picture of Raskolnikov with his best friend in a bit humorous way. The quote is one of the most frequently used saying among Polish students that means something like: "Don't bother yourself, there are reterms". Isn't it possible that a similar expression might have existed at the universities of tsar's Russia? I don't think so.

As we remember from the book, Dostoyevsky pictured Raskolnikov and Razumikhin as two characters with completely different attitude towards studying. Raskolnikov, as an extremely ambitious and hard-working young man, was studying hard in the hope to acquire as wide knowledge as possible. On the other hand, Razumikhin, a good-tempered optimist, surely damped his friend's ardour (or at least tried to do so) and relieved him of exam stress.

The piece dedicated to all the students - both diligent and avid for knowledge as Rodion Romanovich and those of stoical attitude like Dmitri Prokofievich.

Enjoy!

Hello everyone. I would like to know your opinion about my work and my drawing style as a whole. One thing I want to ask you for is not to be rude to me as far as it's my fifth attempt to draw a human portrait ever and I'm just a beginner.

Thank you in advance.

P.S.: The comic-like eyes of the man with a book in his hands is an intentional manipulation!

*** Inspired by "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and its Soviet screening from 1969. ***

Starring:
Georgi Taratorkin, Aleksandr Pavlov.

Fifth attemp only? Hats off. While I do not picture Dima this way (like at all my first thought was Luzhin) and it seems to me, that Rodya's eyes are a bit strangely shaped, also look a bit as if he wore eyeliner (if intentional, well done) I think it is really wonderful piece, expressions are captivating. There ia a lot of progress to be done, but this picture is already quite far.

Hah, thanks a lot! And yes - it seems that in the adaptation they put some eyeliner on his lids. The effect is outstanding, I loved it at first sight! <3

It definitely ads drama to his character, TV Tropes have whole page dedicated to this effect - tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

Blonde Dmitri...why is it working so well?! D:

I really like this, it is a good window into their chemistry together.

It's because the actor was playing sooo wonderfully. Chemistry - what a great definiton!

Actor? So their appearances are based on some movie? That renders half of my review up there rather invalid, since I have not seen any adaptation. Nevertheles I hope it is of some use to you.
Which movie by the way? I might like to see it.

Directed by Leo Kulidzhanov, 1969, Russian Soviet cinema. It's mindblowing! <3

AWWW so great!!! I'm really loving the composition, the background is so awesome with the text. Awesome facial expressions, I especially like your Dmitri! (He works as a blond, adorable!) This looks like it should be a book cover or a poster or something Totally worth the wait!

Wow, thank you very much - totally worth to hear! I wanted it to be poster-like and I'm so glad it works. Watching C&P for the first time, I remember my reaction when I saw Dmitri: "Oh, my... A blond... But he's... Perfect... Perfect Razumikhin!" The actor was playing wonderfully, too. And they were such a great "couple" with Rodya - completely like brothers.
