Avon Reservoir and dam was built from 1954-1957 and covers 50 acres of Dartmoor with water. The idea for a dam was mooted in 1948 but this went to an enquiry before a board was formed in 1949 with ministerial approval given in 1950.Shot on a horrendous day for weather with a very full reservoir cascades of water flowed over the top of the dam

They are amazing subjects to photograph, but they scare the hell out of me. I know there are natural places where water is held, but it just seems so powerfully frightening like this. Great shot.

Very nice, almost abstract. I think you could strengthen the design furtur by getting rid of the left side and the top (no sky and lose the other side of the dam)

abstract weirdness to anyone who doesnt know it actually looks like that. Know it well, good kayaking spot with loads of herons and occasionally the returning pair of ospreys there.

i saw an osprey fly out the grass when walked around it....im off to try a few sea kayak tomorrow
