eh, i was hesitant to submit this since it was a bit shaky and the quality turned out poor, but resized it's not so badand besides, i mostly just wanted to post so everyone knows that i love my little bootsie
she's a mexican black kingsnake, almost a year old. i got her last september and i loveeeeee her to death. she's still pretty little, in terms of width and whatnot...she's looking to be around 2 feet long now, though i haven't measured her in quite some time....and she should reach around 4-5 feet long, as mexican blacks tend to stay smaller/shorter than other kingsnakes [whereas florida kingsnakes tend to be the longest, reaching around 7 or so feet...], and she should end up being a little less thick than if you touched your thumb and index finger together...

i dont know if i mentioned it in the description, of if you read the above comments, but this shot was basically a complete fluke while i was playing around with my new cam
so i was REALLY pleased with how it came out

it was a fluke? i think I might get my little mexican out for abit and just take some snaps then and see how they turn out! They are very fast little buggers, I agree, focusing on an all-black snake is difficult enough without it being constantly on the move!

yeah... sge was scooting around my hand and i was just playing with the camera, seeing if i could take a shot and focus well on some part of her, and then right about when i took the picture, she just paused there and looked right at me... and i had been expecting her to keep on cruising
and yeah, thats another thing i hate about shooting her... i need very specific lighting, argh...
but now i want to go play with her, haha
how old is your little guy? and how big [width, length]... i have this suspicion that boots is a little small for her age, so im just asking for comparison reasons... i need to fatten her up

I used to have to extremes - I had an all white snake too! So both were complete pains in the ass to photograph! 
My mexican is about 10 months to a year old now I believe. His length is about 2 foot, maybe a little longer and width is about as fat as my index finger (I have average girly fingers, not especially skinny or chubby
From the sounds of things he is about the same length as boots

and thats awesome about oggy... i keep trying to convince myself boots will slow down later, but i know she wont haha
and okay, good... boots is about a year and a half and looks about like that too... she ate maybe twice or three times only, last winter, though... NO idea why, all her conditions were awesome... for some reason i think she thought she was supposed to hibernate? but then she was fine again come springish... it was odd... but its good to know she seems to be growing at a normal rate!
and shes definitely much bigger than when i got her, in september of 2004

Thats unusual! I havent heard of a king snake going off their food in winter, but then I dont know anyone else with one! I know royal pythons are notorious for being fussy and not eating through winter regardless of the fact that you keep the temperatures the same. I think they can still sense the season change sometimes. Sounds like thats what boots did.

i know!! shes a little nut though, she is... but i called the breeder i bought her from, and he said not to worry too much, just dont stop trying anyways...
and yep... goofy monotone little guys! my dog is all black too, so basically... its only my cat who photographs well! and sometimes the fish, if theyre lazy...

we used to have two big goldfishies and one algae-sucker-whatever fish, but on of the goldfish died, so now we just have the two
he was a trooper though... got an eye knocked out by the other gold one somehow, had random fishie disease and was left with a balance problem caused by his swim bladder, so he was always on his side, and floating at the top LOOKING dead... got some sores from his side drying out too, but he was a happy little guy for the most part

there are two fish...they are both secret morons, but at least they are quiet, haha
and well...snakie loves you too...and you will learn in time to wield her when she gets all wiley, and then i wont have to worry...you just have to be 'on the ball' at first, when she's all waving aroind in the air..then she settles down pretty quickly

thank you so much.... yeah, i thought it was neat how the focus was just on her face... it was actually shot when i was just playing around with the new camera and seeing how well i could focus on her while she was cruising around my arms and then she just happened to sit still and it was all awesome
