Description calm is something im lacking right now
and going out to my old lake and seeing the old cottage and the community and the frozen lake, it was really... nice
like something i just needed to do.

i like how it turned out though. i dont know why, but cool tones make everything seem very... still and empty and i like that. thats what calms me.

hope you like ^_^

lake winnipeg [in manitoba]
color corrections, as usual.

i submitted under landscape because even though its a frozen lake, its 'land' for now and _i_ felt there was more to the photo than JUST the tree, thus it didnt make flowers & plants either...
opinions on category it possibly should have gone in otherwise though?
i might switch it later on...

edit: since when did combining & and p make the face? yet the & sign is still visible?!

I love how the pale cool colors blend into each other. A bit melancholy, you can almost smell the snow and hear the silence.

I love Lake Winnipeg, I go there every summer. This is such a beautiful shot. I've never been able to see the lake in the winter, although I have always wanted to, because the ice is apparently amazing to see when it's pushed up on shore.

Anyway this photo is almost surreal, really well done.

me too
do you go anywhere in particular there? just wondering if you/someone you know has a cottage by my old one

i didnt get a good look at the shoreline this time, but i have seen it when the ice is doing its thing... really spectacular, youll have to try and make it out sometime!

anyhow, thank you very much, glad to hear you think so!

My family has a cottage in the Traverse Bay area and we go to a few select beaches, usually Croken (sp) Place (by Elk Island) or Albert beach, sometimes Grand Beach if we're in the mood!

And you're welcome!

sassmuffin In reply to Milena-Tori [2006-02-22 00:00:34 +0000 UTC]

definitely chilly, but yeah... very calming
i dunno why i get so calmed by cool tones

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Milena-Tori In reply to sassmuffin [2006-02-22 06:03:37 +0000 UTC]

This cool and chilly feeling is an opposite to anything "bright and fast moving" (sorry, my English... -_-), maybe, because of that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sassmuffin In reply to Milena-Tori [2006-02-22 17:32:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah, that could definitely be one interpretation... bright makes things seem very alive and fast moving well... also another sign of life, but everything in this picture of mine is frozen and dead and lacking a lot of color... everything is/looks just frozen in one place, and i often wish i could just freeze time so yes perhaps that IS why im so calmed by cooler, chilly tones and images

mm, glad you like!

and yes, i love snow for that reason too... its just so.. calming, even when there is chaos going on all around. when its just falling lightly and its all fluffy and the weather is pretty mild, its like a dream.

glad it tweaked your interest, then

and 'great white' is a good way to describe canada in the winter months, hah. vast and... quite snowy, at least in most places.

Aww so calm and peaceful and melancholy. That nothing can ever bother nor stress it. I like the simplicity of it with the single tree resting before spring. Well done

i think i love your interpretation the most, and i just keep repeating 'nothing can ever bother or stress it' in my head for some reason, ever since i read this comment which was shortly after you left it

i think youre totally right, nothing CAN ever bother or stress it, it just does its thing through the seasons. takes things as they come. definitely a good lesson to learn, i think, and apply when and where you can.

so thanks for that wonderful insight and slew of words. i dont think i will be forgetting them anytime soon

and im glad you enjoyed!

okay good, haha... i think i like it best in landscapes too... hm

and yeah i dunno, it was very... relaxing to just look out onto pretty much nothing
frozen things are always just nice... maybe because i always want time to stop, so i can lap up every enjoyable moment to its fullest extent, heh.

This shot looks almost surreal, as if there's nothing at all beyond that tree. Which to me, together with those colours in the sky, is calming indeed. Nicely done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sassmuffin In reply to Morrgan [2006-02-18 04:27:03 +0000 UTC]

hooray, another who thought it looked surreal... and im glad it gives off that vibe, since the absolute calm i felt just looking out was quite surreal in itself.

and well... if you walked on that frozen lake long enough, youd eventaully come to the beaches on the other side, or the channels i liked that it looked a bit endless too though

anyhow, thanks
glad to know i seem to be getting 'better'!
