lov the art satansgoalie. It is odd that many people don't hear of her recently.

Famke Janssen.

(bows to her glow of beauty and awesomeness)

...

...ahem.

You've got her looks, great shapes, and the hair is nice so far. The things that bother me are the contrast and the lighting, as if there are two sources, since the background seems to have it's own setting.

It's a pain in the butt, but making the skin tones/highlights blend more gradually will refine the image, and giving more strokes to the hair will give it some life. The slower you work on a vector portrait, the better it gets, but dear god can it test your patience...

I noticed that she's wearing white, so I won't tread on how hard it could get to make it "pop out". Depends on the material and such, but some minor shading usually does the trick.

But yeah, it's definitely her. (nod)

thanks for your comments!

this was the first person i tried to vector. i wasn't really sure how to go about it.

i had trouble with seeing a clear difference in the highlights, mid-tones and shadows in the original image so i took into photoshop and adjusted them there...i think that is why they are so strong...i ajusted them too much. the background was just something i through together at the last minute as you can tell.

i am still trying to figure out how to use the gradient mesh tool when vectoring people. that thing is a pain in the ass to get down. about all i can do with it right now is make some realistic looking fruit. i am still practicing but it's slow going.

the hair is another thing i always have trouble with. no matter what or how i do it, it always looks wrong. i looked at the featured piece on your page and that is some well done hair. do you have any hints or suggestions in getting that look?

but you are right going slow. the more i do, the more i realize that the slower i go the better the piece looks

And the more aggravating it gets its just more fun when you can spend time, but not feel that things are always out-of-place. I totally agree that it's a pain in the ass, but so far it's something I'm willing to put up with because the end results put a stupid grin on my face.

As for hair, I went to a vexel community (vexels.net) and found some advice that I still find hard to apply, even with good-quality images.

The best tip so far is to start on the lightest strands, then work your way down to the darker ones. This way, you do not have to worry about having misplaced highlights, and have more control over what's actually reacting to light. Of all the body parts, this usually takes the longest. Some people use gradients to add some volume, which is always a time-saver.

Practice, practice, practice!
