Description I need a better camera...Cell phones just don't cut it for quality...

For those of you who saw and read my Sculpey Journal entries; Sculpey? & Sculpey...Part 2 , you knew this was coming. After much procrastination, life hassles, and other issues I finally got this thing painted and glazed.

I now have made my own sculpture of my main character, and I must say I'm quite happy with it. I like Sculpey so much...I might consider working with it again sometime. Who knows what I'll turn out next time?

Good news for my Sonic Riders comic. My new BF offered to help me with Backgrounds, since I suck at cityscapes, vehicles and such.
With his help, maybe I can get this thing out of my current doodle rutt.

Aluminum wire and Tin foil skeleton, and layered with Sculpey.

Not bad with this one! I'd not gloss the entire thing next time, leave the "feather" area with a bit more texture, you know? Regardless, nice to see people trying this out!

Thanks for the tip! The selection of paints and baking glaze was a bit limited, but I will keep that in mind. ^_^

What did you use to make this, hun? I've wanted to have a go at making one for a while and have no idea what to use! haha!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to GraceTheHedgehog [2010-01-19 20:34:56 +0000 UTC]

Its a polymer clay called Sculpey that can be molded and baked in a conventional oven to harden. You can get it at any hobby store and Walmart (Paints and crafts section). I love this stuff, and I am working on taking commissions to make figurines. Details are in my profile page. ^_^

GraceTheHedgehog In reply to SaturnGrl [2010-01-19 20:40:06 +0000 UTC]

Awesome thanks! Is it expensive?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to GraceTheHedgehog [2010-01-19 20:56:17 +0000 UTC]

Sculpey's not very expensive. About $5 for a 1 pound box of white at Walmart.
As for my commissions, all figurines I will charge $20.00 per character. They will be no taller than 6 inches, and they require a postage of 8.00 for box and packaging.

Oh wow it turned out really good! It looks really smooth and well put together as well as the neat finish.
I'd love to get my hands on some of this sculpey stuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to AgerianWriting [2009-06-23 21:40:47 +0000 UTC]

Its easy to get. You can get some at Hobby Lobby or Walmart. Hobby Lobby has a bigger selection. I just used a box of white Sculpey that was like $8, and I still have lots left over.

AgerianWriting In reply to SaturnGrl [2009-06-23 23:05:52 +0000 UTC]

We don't really have those stores over here in the UK, clay seems nigh near impossible to get a hold of here, or maybe that's just where I live C:

SaturnGrl In reply to AgerianWriting [2009-06-24 02:17:31 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure you have some hobby stores for art supplies and stuff, right? Maybe you can find some there?

AgerianWriting In reply to SaturnGrl [2009-06-24 13:09:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah we do but none of them have clay for some reason. >.<
