Description In Norwegian folklore, the Hulder (definite form: Huldra) is a forest-dweller seductive female who leads travellers astray with songs and charms (something like a Nordic syrene or Lorelei).

The only feature that can betray them is their long tail, which they hide under their skirts for safety reasons.

Maybe this particular Huldra's tail was too long, maybe she was simply careless: the fact remains a fact, and it is a fact that she got caught and now she is kept in the barn in chains where she can only muse out of the window, longing for her lost freedom.

i really love this image. not just because of the sentimental value [which is huge] but also because everything seems to play together so interestingly.
the atmosphere is unique, the light in all its voluptuousness and the way you rendered the whole subject.

do you realise, that already those were the days...? huh, nostalgia.

indeed; there will certainly be more wonderful days. it just struck me that already such a stretch of time has passed since the summer; and those wonderful days have moved into history and memory. they're not there in the immediate past anymore, where one can still almost touch them.
it is the first of december... soon the year will end; and once more i wonder where all the time went.

are you sure she's not just hiding in the barn to get a little break from the four little people who live in the house?

As usual, I absolutely adore the idea behind your photo. However, I don't think this came out as well as well as it could have. It's a beautiful photos alone, but once the story is tied in, it lacks somewhat. I think it's your choice of the model; she doesn't seem very seductive as you say Hulder are suppose to be, nor does she really seem like she longs to be free.

saturninus In reply to Hendel-Shmendel [2008-09-06 06:54:41 +0000 UTC]

hmmm I think that is up to discussion, but I daresay in the case of Hulder the beauty standard is different: you shouldn't imagine a magazine cover hottie, but rather someone who has a sensual radiation.
of course, maybe I wasn't completely able to convey that with the image, but I assure you it wasn't the model's fault...

Hendel-Shmendel In reply to saturninus [2008-09-08 22:40:15 +0000 UTC]

I completely understand that beauty standard is different from person to person, and I wasn't trying to point out that she isn't a fashion model; in fact, I do think of her as rather attractive. I did, however, mean that she doesn't seem to have a seductive aura about her.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

saturninus In reply to Hendel-Shmendel [2008-09-09 06:52:14 +0000 UTC]

hmmm okay, I understand now.
it is to be considered, though, that a hulder in captivity is not in her best shape for seduction.
I daresay she loses some of her powers in this state.

i have a mixed reaction to this
i read more emotion from the setting than her face
everything seems moody and atmospheric except her

maybe its the size of the photo? i dont know

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

saturninus In reply to montroytana [2008-09-05 16:29:45 +0000 UTC]

hmmm sadly the quality of the raw image is not so good (because of the really little light that was available in the barn), so her facial expression is quite blurred on that too (due to the relatively long exposure)...
