THE STORM SERIES: PART SEVEN

#1- In September of 2006, Storm done went and got herself hitched to T’Challa, aka the Black Panther. Their wedding took place in BLACK PANTHER (4th Series) #18, and this was her wedding dress. I couldn’t pull off the intricate detailing of the beads and jewelry at the level that appeared in the comic, but I did what I could and I like how it came out. There’s apparently a four page article in the wedding issue that deals with the design of the dress, and though I have the issue, I haven’t read it all the way through. I figure the main design point was showing off her girls, and it certainly does that. There was (of course) an elaborately decorated cape-shawl-robe thing that went with this, but I wasn’t even gonna try it.

#2- Since getting married and becoming queen of Wakanda, Storm has been super busy between a couple of books, including X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR, and this is the costume she’s been wearing for most of that time. It’s simple, it’s basic, it’s only a slightly altered version of almost everything she’s worn before, but I like it. By the way, what happened to Salvador Larroca? He started out as this amazing new kickass artist, but everything he does now is awful. Part of it might be the coloring, but everyone looks like they're very old and very tired. It concerns me, honestly.

#3- Circa 2008, this would be Storm’s newest costume, as seen in ASTONISHING X-MEN. Apparently bored with, and these are her words, not mine, guilt-free shopping and constant sex, Ro is taking a break from being Queen of Wakanda to slum around with her old X-Men chums in San Francisco. And this is the costume she’s chosen to wear for it. Yeah, well, there you are. Ahem. I did the best I could to make this outfit palpable for me, but it still makes me say “Huh?” The artist’s ‘sketchbook’ design makes her look like some sort of psycho alien warlord thing. But maybe this is what they’re wearing in Wakanda these days. It’s just a little, well, insane.
