Description This image commemorates my 10,000th pageview on deviantArt. The original digital painting began around 1992 and included small fragments of a clipart photo of a cluster of butterflies. This particular incarnation began almost six months ago (Feb. 2009) and represents at least thirty hours of additional painting as I completely reworked the background and added the serpent.
Aside from obvious associations with ancient Egyptian symbolism (the winged scarab and the serpent), the background takes this into a nightmarish Lovecraftian realm of unspeakable sensuality and horror. Writhing tendrils surround a yawning triskelid orifice which bears an intentional resemblance to a vulval vestibule as well as resembling a gaping alien mouth. "Feed Me, Seymour!"

Oh yes, I'm sure! So you made this digitally....do you use a mouse? Tablet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

savageworlds In reply to Guitarheroineno1 [2010-01-16 22:11:36 +0000 UTC]

Wacom Intuos Tablet and an inexpensive graphics program called Picture Publisher. I have tried on occasion to use a mouse, but they always chew through the duct tape and run away.

Haaaa that was good. Man I really need a tablet. xD I work from a laptop computer and have only my mouse-finger-pad to rely on, and it takes ages.

savageworlds In reply to Guitarheroineno1 [2010-01-16 22:50:05 +0000 UTC]

I can sympathize with your plight. Not sure about the responsiveness of the Wacom 'Bamboo' tablets, but I believe they only run around 60 or 70 bucks. Mine is a 4"x6" 'Intuos', but I only use an active drawing area about the size of a business card. For convenience and portability (I also work from a laptop nowadays), I wish I could find a tablet that small.
You might find a deal on Craig's List or Ebay.
On the other hand, check out ~Mikajima , an amazingly (imho) talented 'mouse' artist.

Brilliant detail...the throwback to ancient egyptian motifs is clear yet uniquely stylized; I can see the old reference to the monarch wings in the scarab's wings...

Very organic...a visual pleasure to absorb and ponder...stirs the mind with dark subjects...well done.
