Well, I have to say that Simba, Nala and Sarabi are a bunch of jerks. I do understand that they want to exile Zira, not only because she knew all along what Scar did to Mufasa, but because she is clearly a threat since she wants revenge, but to exile her children is a whole different level. I understand that Nala is happy about it because she always hated Azra, but Sarabi is her aunt for Pete's sake, she knows she is not like her parents, yet she doesn't give a damn about sending 4 teenagers, 1 cub and 2 new born cubs into the Outlands with only her mother as a support.
They could had let the children stay and only exile Zira, but no, let's get rid of Scar's breed because he was dangerous. By that point of view, Mufasa and Simba are dangerous too because both of them are directly related to Scar, since he was his brother and uncle.
To be honest, they are not better than Scar or anyone, they had all of this coming.

I find it horrible how they will exile someone just because they're the same "breed" as Scar. It's completely unfair and judgemental! They didn't even give they a fair trail. Also couldn't they just exile Zira and get the 4 grown up sisters to look after Kovu, Vitani and Nuka.Β

I don't like Simba either, he was a spoiled show off brat when a cub and a over-protective (to the point it wasn't even funny or understandable) prejudiced adult. I just liked him a little when he was a teen (I could understand him not wanting to go back to the Pride when he believed he had killed his father). He annoys me a LOT in Simba's pride, since he turned into such a hypocrite. And though I love most of the outlanders, I don't like Zira at all... (She could have been a great character, but...).
I think Simba could have tried to deal with the situation in a different way, but maybe he was still to angry about everything (or not, again, considering how he is in the second movie)

Well, can't say I disagree with you on any of those points then. Simba never interested me much as a character, at least since I was a young child. While I do admire his bravery in (attempting to) protect Nala from hyenas as a cub, and I did feel for him when he lost Mufasa, I feel like as a cub he was just that one rich kid who kind of rubbed it in everyone else's face. Oh, and I don't think anyone likes him as an adult in the second movie. Or at least any normal people. The Pridelanders just generally aren't portrayed well or given much depth in Simba's Pride. I mean seriously, none of them even have names or lines except Simba and Kiara (and Nala, who talks like two times).
And I kinda agree about Zira. In fact, I feel that way about most of the characters from the second movie. Either their personalities are completely changed or it's just... ugly. Not to mention the entire movie is so, so heavily retconned it's not even funny. ._____.
But yeah, I feel like they blew it with Zira and especially Nuka. Nuka could have been a good character - someone who wasn't so sure of himself for a change - but I had a hard time taking him seriously because they tried so hard to shoe-horn him into the hyenas' role. Also he's just generally obnoxious, but that's besides the point I guess.
As far as Zira, I feel her main flaw is that we have no explanation as to where she came from (yeah, apparently she was Scar's mate the whole time but how am I supposed to buy that when there's literally a deleted scene of Scar oogling over Nala because of loneliness?). It's just completely random and out of the blue and it doesn't make much sense. And that's even BEFORE you throw in the whole thing with Kovu's father - if it's not Scar, then who the hell is it?
I feel like the only characters who really stand out to me are Kovu and Vitani. Aside from that I can't really think of anyone new that really grabs me. Zira was okay, in my opinion, but it's just... hard to believe she exists.
That's not to say I don't like the second movie, but it is just not nearly of the same quality as the original. At the end of the day, though, it is a DTV so I don't think anyone was expecting too much. Besides, as far as Disney sequels go, I know that there are far, FAR worse...Β Β

You just nailed the point about Simba. I feel like part of the "message", "plot", whatever of the movie was to break his arrogance when his father died (We all felt for him, it's always heartbreaking when someone, especially one so young, see someone he/she cares about die. Plus, Mufasa was a great character, they gave time showing why he was a great ruler and how kind he was). When he became a teen, I felt he was more likeable.
Simba's Pride... That movie could have been great, a great lesson about how we shouldn't be prejudiced and so on, but no. It lacked depth and most characters were annoying (And, I'm sorry, but a person doesn't break from years of brainwash and harsh training in ONE. DAY. They could have show time passing by during a song or something, but no. It's like Kovu moved to the pride and it took him what, one or two days to become Mr. Goody-Goody. Sad, because I really liked his character).
Not to mention that most of them are portrayed in a way that you feel like the movie's creators wanted you to hate all of them. There is not a moment when you see their good characteristics and become sympathetic towards them! How can I hope they will make peace and see the error of their ways if they are so annoying that I want them to just die and shut up? The ONLY ones I liked were Kovu and Vitani...
Not only Simba was such a hypocrite that I wanted to smack him, but Nala lost all that spark that made her a great character. Seriously, she became that "meek, docile wife". Hey, nothing against settling down and being like this, but considering how she was in the first movie, I felt that was a let down. She was all about justice and helping and fighting and suddenly all she does is smile and stay at Simba's side. Like when Simba exiled Kovu, there is a scene when Kiara gasps in fear listening to all animals yelling to Simba send him away and Nala is at her side looking just like her... Okay, if she also felt that Kovu wasn't guilty (if she did, why was she looking like that?) WHY she didn't say anything? The Nala from the first movie would! She became the most general mother-wife character and lost all that that made her unique...
Zira... Oh god, how I hate her. Okay, the movie producers said she wasn't Scar's mate and actually just a loyal follower (hey, how about making that clear in the fucking MOVIE?), but even so... She is just a fanatic insane bitch. Jesus, the pride was starving, there was NO food or water, things had gone to hell and SHE is now parading around saying Scar was the rightful king? Sorry, no one is THAT blind! She is not even interesting like Bellatrix Lestrange... Good characters are the ones that you could take all others from the story and make it about them and it would still be cool. Zira isn't like that, the only trait we remember about her is that she is crazy about Scar... Nothing else. The hyenas were memorable, they could be fun and we saw that they just wanted to have food to survive (who can blame them?), they also realized that Scar was an awful ruler and they cared for each other. Scar was obsessed at being king, but refused to see he wasn't good at it (and not knowing his cubhood, we can imagine why he became like that)... You see, every villain needs to have MORE reasons and more characteristics than just being "evil" to be interesting... Zira is just too plain to hold interest. Even Vitani, who appeared so little, was memorable and enjoyable to see! A lot of people fell in love with her!
Oh, Nuka. I have to say, I also didn't like him. I just didn't care for him, I felt the movie could happen without him... But when he died, I felt for him. In the end, he wasn't all about being king like Scar was, he wanted his mother to care for him. And considering how Zira was, we can't blame him. When he died, I felt sorry for him (he has all the signs of a child that is neglected, and perhaps even abused considering how he cowers when Zira even snarls at him, as if he expects her to actually hit him).
I think Kovu's father could be some rogue that looked like Scar. My theory is that Zira mated him in hopes to produce a suitable heir (or he was an abandoned cub that Zira found and Scar took a liking to, who knows). They just made that so they wouldn't have problems with incest, since Kovu would be Simba's cousin if he was Scar's son and second cousin to Kiara. That's fine with me, but they could have presented SOME more explanation. Some things in that movie feel like they just made things as they progressed and we have tiny bits of information just floating in the air...
And let's not EVEN start with Kiara...
I agree, it was a let down and it could have been a GREAT movie, you know? It sure had the potential, but nooo...
Yes, there are far worse sequels... Well, at least some songs were good and we have Kovu and Vitani, who are enjoyable characters.
