Yeah, it's tough to witness when it's such a helpless situation...
From memory at the lower end of the south island over in NZ, it rains more days than not? Here in Victoria there have been droughts before, but it seems the whole worlds climate is a changing...

This is amazing. It perfectly depicts the situation here at the moment. Is the haze in the background still from the bushfires?
The whole thing looks... well honestly, terrifying. Those poor animals are so starved... the two facing you are pleading you with their eyes.. oh boy it breaks my heart.

Yeah, the haze from the fires is still more or less hanging around.
I feel the same way and thats one of the reasons I pulled the car over to take this shot. It kind of left me in awe...
