Description Ok... I HATE MY SCANNER! It completely butchered this picture and took out a lot of details. I will be rescanning this one once the fall semester starts.

So now that my mini-rant is out of my system... about the picture

I haven't drawn these ladies in the same place in three years, and I've never completely drawn Estella. Which is really sad since Stella is a boss and manages to hold her place as a minor character. Also she's gone through a complete do-over from last time I wrote FWC, hence her redesign. (Which yes, I do realize is drastic. But honestly I didn't do much for her when I first designed her, and it was kind of obsolete with the new book) I took inspiration from her mother, Erwin's design for some elements of her clothing.

Stella and Gina's dynamic has taken a drastic turn as well. While in old FWC they were equals/peers, now the sheer age difference between them has altered this. Gina is twenty-three during FWC, and Stella is about thirty-eight. (We're still working out the timeline, and it makes ages a little... wonky at times) But that's as close as I can get.

Stella took pity on Gina when she was first sold to Verdauga and tossed into her bar thanks to how (honestly sickeningly) young she was at the time. She was only twelve. This formed a mother-daughter like bond between them, and while they both are ultimately looking out for themselves, Stella is fiercely protective of Gina... even to the point of breaking into her room that one time Whegg came to rescue her. But she ended up letting Gina go in the hope of her finally being free. Gina on the other paw, tends to look to Stella for advice.

But this picture itself would be set before Gina's escape. Stella tends to intervein when soldiers get too touchy with Gina by seducing them herself. Because let's be honest, Gina is tiny and easily hurt. Stella is tough as nails and has dealt with everything under the sun, and she figures she can handle whatever goes on far better than her tiny half-blood almost daughter.

Also that smile is one of 'I'd love to stab you right now..."

Oh yes, Estella! I'm so glad that you hadn't forgotten her! I wouldn't say that her re-design is too drastic, since she had been white with black points from the beginning; however, her look definitely got more exotic. She looks really stunning – a true femme fatale!

I'll probably miss the sister-like friendship she had with Gina in the first version of FWC, but the new dynamic between them is so beautiful, and mother-daughter bond is even more touching.

Btw, is Stella also a slave or does she just work in the bar? Come to think of it, I can easily imagine Verdauga keeping her close as a hostage to ensure Badrang's loyalty... Also, I can't remember if Estella a half-blood or not? I think you mentioned that Erwin was an ermine/weasel crossbreed once...

Yeah, I'd actually classify her as a femme fatale. She has it down. Thank you! I'm glad the new look isn't so far from the original that she's unrecognizable.

Eh, I mean, yeah. But to be fair it was hardly developed. While she doesn't get a ton of screen time as a minor character, I think the bits of her and Gina's connection that we do see are going to be way better and stronger. ^^

She's a slave. So in Chapter 17 (Game of Pawns), it is explained exactly what that bar/brothel is. And it creates... a bit of outcry from the Mossflowerians. Or a lot. Verdauga keeps slaves for his soldiers. Because after all, soldiers aren't allowed to marry during their service to the kingdom. Creatures thrown into this awful position are considered the lowest of all slaves. These include slaves who tried to escape their former masters, creatures deemed criminals, half-bloods, and prisoners of war.

Stella is a prisoner of war, and Erwin would have shared her fate if Badrang had not saved her. He wasn't able to save Stella though. This was one of the reasons Erwin wanted Verdauga dead so badly. Yeah.

Honestly, I don't remember if Stella was a hybrid or not. I don't think she is.

I absolutely love relationships like this. I love protective motherly figures who've taken on daughters who aren't their biological children, but love them just as much. And I especially love how unselfish Stella is, in that she let Gina escape so she could be free.

I'd love to see Stella actually stab someone who tries to attack Gina. I really would.

Same! ^^ It's such a nice relationship to explore. Stella has accepted that she has been so twisted by her world that she cannot ever escape. Even if she did, she would have no abilities or any way to provide for herself outside of what she is already forced to do. But Gina is still young, and she has someone who loves her enough to give her a second chance at life. Stella wants nothing more for her, so when Whegg comes back to save her, Stella lets them go and even lies to the empire to cover for them.

And yes, she gets away with that. She's a heck of a smooth talker.

Hah, I would not be surprised if that might have happened once or twice. If anyone could hide a body... it's probably Stella.

That's really sad for Stella, and I hope that's somehow not true. I'd like it if she could find *some* way to experience peace, at least towards the end of her life... but I'm sure you'll tell me, "No spoilers!"

Wow! Smooth talker indeed.

Whoa!

I mean I'm generally very loose with spoilers

Though to be fair, the book is up and available. I'm over half-way done. (And this would be the first draft of it in it's original novel form. So while I use some of the Redwall names for places/characters, it's nothing even remotely close to 'Mossflower') I could throw the link onto my profile or something.

I will just say that Stella has a part to play that is nothing like what she imagined.

^^

Yeah, but I've never had a problem with spoilers.

Oh, cool! Awesome. Yeah, probably, that might work.

Oooh, intriguing!
