Description Awwwwwwww dang it Whegg and Gina are cute. I mean they were always cute, but I made them exponentially cuter. *whispers* What have I done ...

Also ……… WHAT is it with me and scanners? I scanned this at school, and the scanner, while doing a good job of producing a clear, not washed out image … well, it thought it was smart. Whegg and Gina are leaning against a wall, but the scanner was like 'Leaning? Wha … people can lean on stuff?? No little human, let me fix that for you.' And at angled them upright. So that is why there's a weird gray border.

*siiiiiiiiiigh* I'm sure that has to do with the settings, but as it's the school's scanner, I'm not sure how much I can mess with. I'll ask my teacher next week :3

ANYWAY. Can I just say that Whegg and Gina's story has gotten so … ehm, heartbreaking/warming? Like it's beautiful and sad and happy and harsh at the same time. It has a happy ending from a dark beginning, let's just say that. I mean, honestly. There was no way Gina wouldn't have a hard beginning, especially as I decided how the Greeneye empire actually worked. (For the matter, Whegg didn't have it easy) But Gina, from the very beginning, was born with a deck stacked against her. Ripfang's halfblood daughter that he'd never lay claim to, sold to the empire … yeah, nothing was in her favor. (That delves into the mechanics of the empire actually works, being a halfblood is illegal (As is making one, but you know Ripfang's never going to admit his part in that) I mean, ferret/weasel/stoat hybrids might be able to slide under that rule if they're careful, but any hybrid of woodlander and vermin is looked at as lower than woodlander slaves. Sooooo that leaves Gina in a nasty spot, since she's a rouse.

But that's where Whegg comes in, and he's like … the best boyfriend ever. Whegg is just a really sweet guy. He's honestly the most normal of the narrator cast, really.

Anyways, this is the moment when Whegg comes back for Gina and offers to take her across the Moss. Not exactly the conventional knight in shining armor moment, seeing as he dresses as a beggar and climbs through her window … but hey. When you're a wanted creature, you do what you gotta do. And after her initial shock at this, Gina's quite happy to see him. I mean, you have to figure she thought he was dead.

I know, aren't they? *squeee*

HAH yes, their hair is amazing. I feel like Gina's going to be like 'Uhm, Whegg honey, ya know that just lettin' yer hair down probably ain't the best disguise..."

Hugging is hard I feel the pain. Best advice on it is to think about the entire pose, not just the parts you can see. So like, imagine the figures are transparent and even draw their arms through their bodies, if that makes any sense. That really helps me understand where the arm is going to wrap around the other person. *shrug*

I explained that really weirdly

Aww, this is so cute! Whegg and Gina deserve all the love in the world, precious sweethearts. Their embrace looks so tender and touching, and I love Whegg's long-ish hair.

Ah, so Regina is a rouse in the rewrite now? Yeah, that would explain why Ripfang sold her off as a slave - and why she is so short compared to Whegg.  Interesting bit of lore regarding half-bloods - I can see why a crossbreed of a vermin and woodlander would be considered lower than dirt, but you say that vermin halfbloods are also not exactly welcome? I wonder why exactly it's so, because the Greeneyes never seemed to care about 'purity' of any sort, neither in your first version of the story nor in the second...

I know, isn't it? *dies of cuteness* They really do, my beautiful lovelies <33 And they have each other, so I'd say they're pretty close ^^ Oh yeah, Whegg does look interesting with his hair down/messed up. Normally it's pretty pristine and in his signature ponytail, but eh. He's incognito. Or at least he's trying to be.

Yep! I was trying to work out why Ripfang disliked her so, and the whole 'cause she's a girl' excuse makes no sense seeing as he has female crewbeasts and relies heavily on Sandingomm and he really has no bias against girls. Buuuut his illegal halfblood mistake … yeaaaah he'd want to get rid of that. Seeing as Gina's existence in any proximity to him could land him in serious trouble if the wrong person found out. If Gina was a pure rat, she'd probably be Ripfang's pride and joy and a swashbuckling pirate lady. But she's not.

Well, that's a good point. I doubt vermin crosses are illegal. Though halfblood is just a derogatory term in general. Eh, it's not so much purity as it is strength and conformity. Cause yeah, they don't care about purity one bit. But halfbloods are a touchy subject among most cultures (except Southsward, Southsward doesn't care) And they get a rep for being weaker than their parents. That's not entirely unfair either. Gina is a good example of this, she's tiny, and compared to the rats around her, she's physically weak. At times you get a powerhouse like Timbal or Romsca. Most of the time you get a Gina or Bryony, or a chronically ill creature like Ublaz, or a creature with a weak immune system like Esmund (though to be fair, that probably also has to do with the circumstances of his birth) Either way, halfbloods have a tendency to take on their parent's worst traits, especially in the initial generation. As long as the halfblood has children with a pureblood who is one of their two species, the kids will be fine. If they partner with another halfblood or a separate species entirely … those odds decrease by a lot. An example of this would be Cedric and Fripple, being a gerbil and a rouse. Though in their favor, Fripple's a second generation halfblood, and she has magic hair.

Anyways, sorry for that massive block of text I say all that to explain why Verdauga, with his calculated and unemotional approach to life and being a king, might not like the idea of halfbloods. Simply because he wants strong and healthy subjects for a strong and prosperous kingdom
