I love this movie! You've captured her perfectly! I first saw Kiki's Delivery Service when I was little and no English subtitles or dubs available, so my grandmother would sit down with me and translate this and Totoro, my first two Miyazaki movies. This brings back a lot of great memories. Thank you.

My grandmother is from Okinawa. She's told me about how the dialect, ancestry, and culture are all very different from the main islands, but now I suppose she is technically "Japanese." I am very interested in preserving my heritage, so I'm learning Japanese in order to bridge over to the dialect and make sure it is recorded so that it may not be forgotten. I'm such a nostalgic sap, which is part of why I love Studio Ghibli movies and why I think I'll fit in.

I find emoticons so endlessly fascinating that I stare at them for five minutes before realizing there are actually WORDS in messages! XD
I had my first Japanese test on Monday. I was shocked that there were only ten questions... it was very intimidating, knowing that I'd get a whole 10% nicked off for every wrong answer. O.o But thankfully I didn't get any wrong, which is reassuring since this was the easiest test she's going to give us.
Half? Actually, I could tell from your pictures, now that I think about it... I claim that my intelligence is from the Okinawan side and my good looks (or lack thereof) is from the Norwegian/white side.

Yes, I'm a quater Okinawan, a quarter Norweigian, and a smattering of various western European ethnicities. So I'm mostly white but claim I'm Asian (because I am and that's cooler and better for scholarships).

This is how Ursula should have painted. Hers was good in the movie, but if she did Sumi paintings, and if Kiki saw this, she'd quit complaining that she doesn't have a beautiful face. XD
