This is a pretty nice little tutorial. I didn't think of combining filters to make screentones.

Sorry that screenshot is slightly misleading, it was mainly supposed to show where the filter options are. Actually I went into Sketch folder. What I normally do is to click on one of the options and use the folders that show up instead. You can see it better in the Example screenshots that there are folders, each filled with different effects.

Yo, I slightly changed the "where the Filter Options" screenshots to help better explain myself. And thank you for catching that.

Awesome.
I went and had a fiddle in Photoshop, and found the sketch folder and all bits and pieces.
I used to use Letratone back in the day.
I don't know if they still make though.
But great tutorial.
Thanks.

Screentones are most commonly used in Manga(Japanese Comics) instead of color or to help show texture. They can have a combination of black, white and grey. They can be dots, stripe, or patterns in general, textures such as rock, cloth and so on.
In traditional medium the screentone is a transparent paper with a wax adhesive back. It is now more popular to use computer to simulate the look.
Here's one of my fanarts that I did earlier to show as an example [link]
I hope that helps.
