Wow amazing designs *_* could i get the dimensions for the words and a better look at the edges of the sword, preferably the top left sword?

Sorry, but I no longer have any of these.

Wow your swords look amazing, maybe I should try your method, have done a knife and working on a sword now, but I start with a tree branch or log and then use carving axe and knife to work it down to the shape I want. Β Nothing is really planned out as just see how it goes and what I can make as I work around knots and other obstacles.Β
Think my favourite is second up on the left, I like a nice simple sword.

Yeah they do come out quite nice, but they are a lot of work.

Sweet mother mercy, but you're versatile, Scatha: top-notch critter renderings, suitmation, and now you're making me wish I'd taken more shop classes in HS. Lovely variety of blade designs, even if that one on the upper right looks like a great way for clumsy halfwits like myself to lay open their knuckles.

Haha, I was terrible in Shop, actually. It's not too hard to make swords, thankfully-a lot more fun than making a wooden lamp in school, for sure! Thankya kindly!
Yeah, that one's from Final Fantasy IX. One of Zidanes daggers, the....Gladius, I think? It's not a user-friendly design, lol.

Trust me, I would've been worse. Four or five math classes in my senior year apparently ate most of my cognitive reserve, 'cause electrical wiring & basic automotive escaped me near-entirely.
Ah, and now that you mention the franchise all becomes clear. At least the twisty shiv could be hefted by your average human(oid) being-style over physics seems to be the one true rule of that 'verse.

Math does sap all the will to do anything else.
Style over anything else is the rule of Final Fantasy, really. If it looks cool it doesn't matter if it even makes sense.

Hence the space-rock-proof eeee-vil bishies, two-story-cleaver-wielding babyfaces, and nightmarishly powerful beasties with nothing better to do than sit in some forsaken corner of the map & wait for yer party to farm 'em for great XP.

what tools did you use to make these? I need help with finer details

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to Prototypeskull [2013-06-14 20:08:02 +0000 UTC]
For the fine details I used a Dremel. Mostly the craving attachments, but I used the sanding drums and cutting rounds a lot, too.

WOAH, these look absolutely awesome.
Any possible way to get a good tutorial on how to do this. The tools and basic processes at the very least. I need to pick up a hobby.

Just take a board, draw and cut out the outline of the design, then use my little Dremel tool to carve down the blade and make the pommel and guard pop out. Oh, and lots and lots of sanding, too, lol.

Buy small containers of oil base paint.
Water it down to a stain consistency using mineral spirits thin it
after staining in full color, pour 2 part translucent epoxy for a lifetime finish

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to DonRobarts [2013-06-06 19:56:53 +0000 UTC]
Does this stain the wood as opposed to painting it? I mean, it'll look more like stain and not paint, right?
Sounds like a very neat idea if it does, really! Thanks for telling me about it. Mineral spirits, not oil, right?

DonRobarts In reply to Scatha-the-Worm [2013-06-09 15:14:10 +0000 UTC]
Yes, you can thin down oil paint with mineral spirits.
Then paint on the color to the area. let it sit 30 seconds to a minute. then wipe it off.
the pigment will be left and you willsee the grain of the wood still.
Google "whitewashing" for how to's

If gameplay of Dark Souls taught me anything, its that a simple longsword is insanely versatile. The kophesh looking one though is very neat.

If Dark Souls taught me anything, it's that I would be terrible at it.
The one at the bottom? That's actually a Yatagan. I couldn't get the pommel to look right, but the blade shape came out pretty well.
