Description Unforunately, sometimes my snakes will grab the forceps along with dinner. This stops me from feeding anybody else until he lets go...which isn't until the rat's heart would have stopped beating. In this case, it's a frozen thawed rat. [I have lost my other pair of rubber tipped forceps.]

This is my male pastel ball python, Q.

XD I'm lucky my corns eat 'dead' mice... they dont coil or anything (unless they're REALLY) hungry, but the just find it... say 'huh food' and Hawkeyes immediately scarfs... Marrow pokes it and then eats with a little more dignity. XD Nice pic too! I can see an enthusiastic eater just taking everything...haha.

they all eat 'dead', but they coil anyway.

my ball got a mouthful of chestnut bedding last time he ate...i use newspaper from now on ^^ anyway, he's very tame so i just took the mouse from his grip after he killed it, and then i had to scrape the chestnuts from his mouth. i dont really like confusing him when he kills, but i just put the mouse back in his cage and he happily accepted it i use live, i know, peta are going to kill me and everything (rolls eyes) he doesn't like dead mice though, no matter how many times i wiggle it over his head and try to make it look alive. he's smart, he wants to hunt XD

As long as you supervise the feeding, and get him properly prepped before (leaving the rat in the room for 15 mins or so before feeding, to get that scent going), feeding live is not an issue. Some snakes just won't take it unless they can feel the heart beating.

You can still feed on loose substrate, just put one sheet of newspaper down before you feed and feed on the paper.

At this point my snakes will refuse pre-killed food. It's got to be frozen and thawed or they won't take it.

that's a shot of a really cool event, but why do you need this glass in the photo? How do it add to your story?
number 1 rule in photography: include only things that are important for the shot [like tell about it, adds feeling/athmosphere to it].
Or perhaps there is a reason why it's there and I just missed it
good luck!

The glass is acutally a water bowl. I left it in for color composition. Also, I don't think I would have gotten the perspective I wanted if I cropped it out.

ok, you're the artist and eventually your opinion is the one that counts

At the time I shot the picture, I didn't think about taking out the water dish, acutally.
