Hello fellow scientific illustrator,

Thank you for your comments on my artwork Mike! I just noticed them from last year! Sorry! Your fish drawings are amazing! I especially love this brown trout as I fly fish for them here in Colorado! Great work!!

Better late than never, I always say... Well, I never say that. But I did this time, and I meant it. I appreciate the love for the trout... that one was a custom illustration from a relative's catch in Maine or something.

Great job on the values and the texture of the fish. But next time try to stay withing the lines, there are some solor smudges here and there But other than that you did a great job

Chalk it up to laziness... I should have cleaned up all the edges in PS.

Each fish takes about 6 hours. You might be surprised what you can do if you just simply put your mind to it... and thanks!

Thanks! I don't blend with oils or water, I layer light shades using different pressures... probabbly not the right way to do it, but it's the way I know.

Excellent. I love the colour shading. Which pencils do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scientificartist In reply to Mandala-Jim [2011-06-15 13:11:27 +0000 UTC]

Mostly Prismacolors, but I have a number of Derwent pencils that are "odd" colors that help me get different shades and tones.

Ok thanks. Prismacolor seems to be the choice when it comes to colouring pencils. I'm a colour noob.. I still don't know what the difference is between cheap and expensive pencils.. Learning slowing

Many of my drawing are composites of photos, other drawings and paintings. This fish was a commission and drawn solely from a photo. It's not just A fish, it's THE fish that was caught.
