Description
The families headed to their stations. L’illa to science, Tarja to navigation; Hayden to communications, Nodoka to Engineering, Will to helm. Tajra, as ship’s surgeon, moved between the Nodoka and Hayden to watch.
“Seluane, impulse and warp available for all regimens of flight. Shields and deflectors on stand-by. Structural integrity active.”
“Sel,” Tarja called, “I have a minimum power course plotted to behind the moon. To traffic control’s sensors, it’ll look like we’re drifting out of our anchorage.”
“Course laid in.”
“Maneuvering thrusters, and execute. L’illa, keep an eye on passive sensors for any tugs headed our way.”
“Got it.”
“Course modified for high warp, if needed, Sel.”
The WIld Stallion slipped her mooring, maneuvering thrusters firing. The ship slowly drifted away from the beacon on a vector that would take them well away from traffic but towards the moon with the thrusters firing intermittently.
“Traffic control is signalling a yard tug, Seluane,” Hayden said. “Traffic control is also hailing.”
“Confirmed. YT-1300 has just changed vectors and is on an intercept course.”
“Damnit. Hayden, maintain radio silence; Will adjust course to match the high speed course plot. Standby warp drive.”
“Adjusted course laid in.”
“Warp factor 8. Execute.”
“Warp 8, aye.” The Wild Stallion leapt into the dark at Warp 8, leaving the tug and Caledonia Prime behind.
“Just before we jumped to warp, CDS Stag received orders to pursue and detain,” Hayden said. “That was the last transmission on the fleet channels we were privy to.”
“Tarja, Will, plot a circuitous course to Virinat. We’re not playing fox to the Stag’s hound.”
